Ordered the CD last night, and listened to most of it on Prime. Sounded pretty good for a first listening, though I doubt it will convert any non-believers.
Not often I buy a physical CD these days, but Bruce is a must, if only to read the cover notes.
As an aside, we had to return our Echo Studio to Amazon yesterday, because it kept cutting out. No quibble, so maybe they know of a bad batch. Replacement arriving tomorrow.

Back to Springsteen, is it just me, or....?
Born to Run is an absolutely epic record. Every track a gem. Then I bought Darkness when it came out, very excited, but was so disappointed. It sounds like a failed attempt to recreate the BTR sound, with much of the album just 'filler'. A few years later FM radio was playing 'Born in the USA', and I thought 'Wow. What a dirge. He's gone all John 'Cougar' Mellenkamp. How very sad'. Then I heard 'The River'. Is there really any need to recreate the work of JD Salinger in musical form? I've avoided him since. Best be honest. I went to see Bryan Adams with a girlfriend many years ago. She was enraptured. I was polite. As I usually kick off when struggling, she thought I'd actually enjoyed it, so she bought us tickets to see him again a few months later.
Still 'When You Love Someone' you do it 'All For Love'

Those of us who don’t want to be owned by Spotify/Amazon or Apple music. Stop your subscription, lose your music. As per the other thread for that reason I am OUT

You clearly live in the moment and don’t think ahead
I will always buy vinyl if its available, if theres no other option and its an album I want I will buy CD's but have cleared out loads recently.
So much music is considrered and treated as disposable now, and TBH most of it is poor, but the smaller artists need all the help and support they can get, so buy Their stuff!
I pay for spotify for my and my families convenience, I son't consider it as a contributor to any musicians livelihoods, sadly

Back to Springsteen, is it just me, or....?

Talent beyond belief. Best live performer that I've ever seen. I'm not convinced that Bryan Adams is worthy of carrying Springsteen's guitar onto the stage! I'm not going to make any comparisons, but overall I prefer Jackson Browne, to Springsteen, although I couldn't recommend anything that Browne has released since 'I'm alive', which came out in 1993. It's al about personal taste. I think 'Born to run' is slightly flawed, as tracks 2 & 7 do nothing for me. My Springsteen favourite albums are 'Magic' and 'The rising'.

Got the CD on Friday, and as a Bruce nut, was very pleased with it.
Max's booming drum beat and some of the guitar rifts are Bruce and the E. St. Band back to their best.
Watched the movie last night. A great insight of how they recorded the album in Bruce's own studio at his home in just four days.
Bruce would strum the tune and sing lyrics for each track with the band members taking notes, a few comments and critisms and thoughts, then they jam and
tweak and record.
True musicians showing their friendship and unbelievable talent.
A great film for music buffs .
IMHO a superb album and just looking forward to life getting back to normal and the thought of another tour, probably the last Bruce and the full band tour.

Thanks Hailsham - will definitely listen. Agree by the way - it’s a great new album - I’d already played the title track and Ghosts several times so they’re the ones in my head at this point. I do hope he comes back for one more big tour when the madness dies down - such a class act!
Guessing you watched it on Apple TV? Anyone know if / when it'll be available on Prime, Netflix or elsewhere?
House of a thousand guitars is probably Springsteen's best song in over 40 years. Simply magnificent

Listened to the ‘Letter to,You” album on Spotify tonight. I thought it was excellent. It is very clear that Bruce is in his senior years, a lot of the lyrics were exploring what happens at the end, how can you be happy at the end, what was it all about etc. But it was a great listen whilst I was cooking Sunday evening dinner for Mrs W.
I’ve always enjoyed Springsteen. I was at Uni in California in 80/81 and my room-mate got me into his music. He went on to become a pro baseball player for KC Royals, but died last year. And so, listening to the lyrics of this album, that search for meaning out of life in your senior years, was really thought provoking. But still,with some great rock/country riffs, really enjoyed it. Well done Bruce.

To just show how music is personal, this from a review of the album which firmly placed House Of A Thousand Guitars as the worst of the 12.
No, “House of a Thousand Guitars” is not a Willie Nile cover. Though that might have been the more captivating move considering this new track is something of a snoozer. As Springsteen sings of the healing power of music itself — a fair point, especially these days — the verse and choral melody never deviate, creating a rather unwelcome ear worm over four and a half minutes. Though this tune does include the album’s most overt challenge of Springsteen’s public nemesis President Donald Trump: “the criminal clown has stolen the throne,” he proclaims.
I've listened to the album once, and thought average with no stand out songs. Hoping it's one that grows with more listens.
