Ryan 7 - No chance with Len, did everything else diligently
Lamptey 6 - Not at his absolute flying best but always an outlet and handled Palaces limited attaching threat down that flank well, a mark off for the penalty conceded
Burn 7 - We look much more solid and organised in set pieces with his presence, never lets us down
Webster 7 - Not overly troubled but coped adequately and distribution is much improved
Dunk 6 - Horror challenge for the sending off so I've had to knock two marks off for captain fantastic
White 8 - Terrific, really his his straps in the role
Bissouma 7 - A few wild efforts but I won't begrudge him that given his prowess from distance, drove us relentlessly forward.
Lallana 8 - Oozes class, faded a little but a creative outlet always troubling the Palace defence
March 7 - Not at his vintage best pre international break but still gave us plenty of attacking outlet and reliability.
Trossard 7 - A couple of lovely touches but not involved enough as I'd like, a peripheral figure
Maupay 7 - Workrate was outstanding and worked and stretched the Palace defence all day long. Didn't really happen for him in front of goal.

Connolly 6 - Meh
MacAllister 8 - Magnificent strike for the goal and really gave our attack an extra dimension

Connolly Meh - did you see the flick to set up the goal?

Don't know what game you were watching, but in the one I was watching Maupay had an absolute shocker and Trossard wasn't much better. Hopefully Welbeck can smarten his act up. Unless of course you are thinking 6's are too generous, then we would be in agreement.

Exactly my point. They were both absolutely appalling today. It genuinely worries me how many people on here have watched them on TV and scored them 6s and 7s. Today they were utter gash. No doubt about it.

3s each, and not a penny more. Truly awful performances, capable of better, but today was just embarrassingly bad for them.

Ryan 6. I wish he’d save a pen.
Lamptey 7. Doubled up on, still drove forward, unfazed by being roughed up by big units.
White 6
Webster 6
Dunk 8. Back to his defensive best. Regarding his moment of madness, I think he saw the glory of scoring a derby winner.
Burn 3. A bit of a wound-up heads gone today for me.
Bissouma 5. Started brilliantly, chaotic after they scored, silly shots from unlikely positions.
Lallana 7.5. Creative quality, always forward thinking, finding team mates effortlessly in tight situations.
March 7.5. Drove us forward, feeding Maupay etc, great ball retention, creative.
Trossard 4. Not at the races.
Maupay 4. Improved in the last 15 minutes, before that so poor at everything including ball control and being statuesque when Lallana, March or Lamptey fed him.

Mac A 7. Thank you sir.
Connolly 4.
Gross 4. Too late to shine.

Dont often disagree but Connolly played a big part in the goal, another day might have got a penalty and Gross made us play more direct.

Ryan - 6 - Had nothing to do. Worrying that he got beaten at his near post for the offside goal though.

Dunk - 6 - Had a good game despite the red card which loses him a point.
Webster - 7 - Played well. Been our best CB since the restart
Burn - 6 - Few shakey moments but did okay overall.

Lamptey - 7 - Caused trouble but not as effective as he has been previously. No way it was a penalty.
March - 6.5 - His end product lets him down massively. One good cross (which Maupay should have burried) doesn't excuse some really poor efforts, good apart from that.
Bissouma - 8 - Okay, his shooting is all over the place but the amount of work he does is phenominal. Our most important player
White - 7 - 6 for the first half, 8 for the second. Took a while to grow in to the game but was excellent when he did.

Trossard - 5 - Just not his day, nothing came off for him.
Lallana - 7.5 - Same as White but a slightly better first half, grew in to the game massively in the second half. Such good close control and movement
Maupay - 5 - Worked hard and a real nuiscance but missed two brilliant chances which nearly cost us. The one where Lallana put him clean through and he took a touch too many was infuriating.

Subs:

Connolly - 7 - Scares the shit out of teams with his pace and running. Brilliant flick to set-up the goal & should have had a penalty imo.
Mac Allister - 8 - Was a great strike even before the deflection, and some real good set piece deliveries.
Gross - N/A - Not on long enough.

Potter - 8 - Got the subs right.
Officials - 3 - Softest penalty you'll ever see, let their LB stay on after a push right in front of the lino & then didn't give the Connolly penalty despite more contact there than their pen. Useless.

I'm going with these scores and also the comment about Maty and the disallowed goal. What is it with him and going to gound early? Stand up for goodness sake!

Connolly will get those dives as penalties about 1 on 20. By that time, if he hasn't already, he will have got a reputation for it.

How about if his first impulse wasn't to throw himself to the floor then he would score a lot of goals by shooting?

Its a simple thing... as a team we score way more goals with Connolly in the side. Or a genuine 2 up top.

We still should have won the game comfortably though.

the reason he doesn't get some is because we are Brighton rather than Liverpool or Manure...

ref had earlier given a very soft penalty which involved as much contact.

Yes in might be counter productive at times and yes i would like to see him shoot more but there was no opportunity to do that that time.

Maupay and Trossard were our weakest players today. I seriously wish Maupay would get his shots away earlier (before keepers and defenders have time to settle), he has to have too many touches at times and why he decided to check inside when in the box in the second half (and got tackled) when a clear shot was on astounded me. He can be very frustrating at times and has scored a lot more goals when he instinctively shoots. He’ll have far better games that’s for sure. Trossard never seems to be cut out for these derby games for some reason.

Agree with this. Maupay's decision-making is poor at times; yesterday he even seemed to tackle Solly in the box and neither got a shot away. His Xg for last season was 13.56 - an extra 3-4 goals from him would have seen us comfortable earlier; this season his Xg is about the 4 he has scored; fair enough but shows he is not making THE difference you look for from your main striker.

This. And I can't believe this isn't what everybody is shouting for as it is so clear.

We look completely toothless with just Maupay up front and not much better with Trossard alongside him.

But we look dangerous with Connolly and Maupay together.

And Connolly is a much much better finisher than Maupay, but that's for another thread. I love Maupays effort, but he didn't even go close with his two great chances.

Bloody Worthing!
Two ways of looking at the game and the subsequent player rating.

Glass half full - we gorged ourselves on possession and denied them a single decent chance.

Glass half empty - Palace were shockingly bad and we didn't put them away.

In this context my default for most of the team would be a 5.

I'd go along with that. Connolly's running really unsettles teams. Where he needs to develop (and I have no doubt he will, he's still a very young man) is that being in the right place right time knack that Maupay has.

Connolly seems to me to be the more consistent finisher, but gets far fewer chances so has a lower goals to game ratio.

Now I know you must be a mate of his.

Flick!!!!

Watch the replay it hits the back of his heel and he can't do anything about it. It accidentally lands in the path of MacAllister.

lay off for me but i guess some people see their glass as half empty i prefer mine half full.

some people describe his performance as Meh really... didn't have a lot of time on the pitch but looked pretty positive to me

Palace - what a shower, diving, spoiling, time wasting, feigning injury, arguing, trying to bully. It was the performance of a L2 team in the cup. I don’t think it’s the players it’s their dinosaur of a manager.

Ryan 6 - not much to do but did what he should

Lamptey 7 - perhaps not as explosive as in some games, still good performance though
Webster 7 - good defensive performance, tried to go on attack a few times but it didnt result in anything
Dunk 7 - safe and good defensive performance. Shame about the red but shit happens.
Burn 7 - good as always

White 7 - they had no chance centrally and White was part of that
Bissouma 8 - bossed midfield, plenty of good passes
Lallana 7 - some quality passing and good defensive work
March 7 - makes all the right runs, nice dribbles, only issue is that the end product is often missing.

Trossard 6 - some nice things but also got dispossessed more often than usual
Maupay 6 - hard work, nice positioning and decent link-up play but lacked a bit of sharpness

Macallister 8 - good performance and nice goal
Connolly 7 - many clever runs as usual, tired of him diving though

Sorry, thought he was dreadful in the first half and average in the second ...

Dunk was very solid.

3s are reserved for performances like Maguire for England last week. Maupay missed a couple of decent chances, but also played a key role in the equaliser, and was as hard-working as ever. Never a 3 IMO.
