League obviously more important, but I do not see this as a choice. We are currently putting out an excellent cup side and there really is no conflict of interest as far as I can see. With the Carabao games coming thick and fast it gives our 'reserves' some genuine gametime to get them up and running and ready to step into the first XI should they be required.

This thread is USELESS without a poll.

The league game, obviously

Good question though

Aston Villa reached the Final last year. They stayed up. It's quite feasible that we could do the same.

No backlog of fixtures - the next round (QF) is scheduled for 3 months time in late December.

Unlike previous years, the Semi-Finals will be over 1 game.

Only 3 more teams to beat to make the Final.

Let's go for it!

Cup game I suppose. Because then we keep going in the cup and have more games. Whereas our league season is not going to hinge on a game against Man United.

However the league game is our next game, and as the best football cliche says we should always take it "one game at a time"

I don't understand why this is so dismissed.

It's pretty much 2 different sides.
The A Team isn't expected to win on Saturday, or at least they weren't at the start of the season.
Were the B team to win next week, the Cup could suddenly look very doable.

Still at least nobody binning off the cup now will be the same posters who lost their shite when GPott activity tried to lose last season.

Or for that matter wrote 'i just hope we give it a go in the cups, this year', during the closed season.

Cup game. Would be in the last 8 with a lot of decent teams already out. We've never won it before so we'd be a step closer to that and if we did somehow win it there's a European competition for next season. I'm pretty confident we'd still be okay in the league if we lost one game to United and as much as I would love to win both out of the two I lean slightly towards the cup match.

You have a strange definition of 'happiness'

By strange, I presume you mean "admirable". Achieving happiness, which is indisputably the most rewarding purpose in life, with a narrow loss and a draw in a couple of football matches is absolutely fantastic.

Thats a very good response

Yes, if the poster is happy with that imagine the smile on his face if we won them both.

To be honest I know I would also be content and proud if we put in the kind of performances needed to get a league draw and a narrow loss by our second team in the cup

The Cup run is good fun, but I think Potter will ALWAYS play the B side in cup games, whereas most other Premier teams are fielding much stronger sides (even if they bring in a few B teamers, the big guns are on the bench). Hence, even were we to get past Man Utd it's unlikely we'd get to the final.

For me, the league match is much more important.

When it comes to the scale of fielding stronger sides in comparison to last season.... I doubt any other club will beat us.

the next game is the most important.

repeat

End

this . . .and you have to approach every game as a can win, which I'm sure they do. GP will be looking at how we can do that I'm sure, as well as the singular CH approach of how to not lose.

Do the double and humble them. Lamptey with a goal in each game as well.

Nope.

The cup team is the cup team.

It boils my wee-wee when the likes of Utd make 14 changes from their quarter final team and semi final team.

Now, amazingly, the Albion seem to be in that position I'd hate for GPott I'd be even more annoyed.

i think both are winnable - start AJ up front alongside Maupay and Trossard. In the cup game i would expect Utd to put out a weak (by their standards) team. I think(?) they have a Europe game on Thursday too so would likely (hopefully) take the cup game as low priority

Yeah, to think, half our B team was last seasons A team before the covid break !
