[Brighton] New cycle lane a259 Brighton

I cut down through Worething on my way home yesterday . . . . single lane for cars from Broadwater to Waitrose . . . . . ok, fair wnough, but the seond lane needs to be split, half for Tour heros and half for motorised 2 wheelers . . . . If anythings going to get people out of cars other than odd sunny days for shorter journeys or local shop trips it will be scooters, elcrtric bikes etc. . . . in addition, motorbikes are all stuck with the cars because of the cones. its an ill considered half arsed bodge up of a job.

I thought they were supposed to have started work on the ones in Upper Shoreham Rd by now...mind you the works at the top of Eastern Av are a ball ache

Upper Shoreham road need s nothing more than white lines, it's a massively wide single lane road. It will work.

Agree re gas works, a good advert for shopping in town if you live there!

Went into Brighton for first time for longtime. What they have done on seafront is a joke. Must say paying £17 to park was also

Yeah, that's all well and good until these take off, then it'll be ruined, hanging trains getting stuck behind the tall bikes.

I thought the loony-tunes A259 one west of the Sealife roundabout was being pulled up after Brighton & Hove Buses (amongst others) highlighted the madness. Is that not the case then ?

Only the section between the Pier and West Street, which went over a week ago and in fairness dealt with the congestion that was the issue north and east of the roundabout.

That 1902 video is wonderful. My dad was nearly 100 when he died and that film was taken 11 years before his birth and 24 before his first Albion match. I'd love one of those around Brighton and Hove. A starling or seagull's eye view around the Pavilion, the seafront etc would be magnificent.

Only the section between the Pier and West Street, which went over a week ago and in fairness dealt with the congestion that was the issue north and east of the roundabout.

I wonder if the monumental ballache that it was giving car drivers led to a reduction in traffic also assisting with the congestion.




I do accept such ballaches aren't ideal to stop car dependency, but it was fun while it lasted.

It's amazing how in 120 years we've gone from:-

A spectacular upsidedown flying train carrying 80,000 a day round town.

To

A 2 tonne metal box, which kills hundreds of thousands a year and if it doesn't get you in the short term it will kill you in the long term, carrying one person.

No, quite simply they removed the two bottle neck barriers at the roundabouts, the change in conditions was instant.

Brighton and Hove’s Labour Party have called for an immediate halt to cycle lane expansion.

From now on they want changes to be evidence based, with full consultation.

Can a minority administration, the Green Party, push through further cycle lanes as executive orders, without needing a vote?
