Agreed. The likes of Hall and White are potentially the next Dunk and Goldson.

I'm not convinced that bringing in another centre half is one of our priorities to be honest.

Adequate cover as soon as Hünemeier and Goldson are back available (and that's not far away)

I agree which is why I suggested somebody like Joelyn Lescott on a 1 yr contract. Experienced a free agent so the only expense is wages. Even if he wants 25k or 30k per week it would only be around !m to 1.5m which is cheaper than Duffy, who would probably be replaced if we get promoted. At his age he wouldnt expect more than a 1 yr contract anywhere so we would be on a winner all round. Another Matt Upson?

Such a signing is a possibility, but wages would absolutely NOT be the 'only expense'. If a player is a free agent, they'll expect a hefty signing-on fee, which is essentially a transfer fee as far as our perspective goes.

At 34 years old what could he command? I would have thought a 12 month contract of good wages would be sufficient. As it stands he is earning nothing.

Why do people assume we are looking for someone as a back up?
If we signed Duffy or anyone else it would be as someone who can step in right now, they play well, they keep the shirt, Connor and Hunnemeir would have to wait for their chance and when it comes it's up to them to take it and keep the shirt.

Would they be happy with that? I doubt it, but that is the whole point, it is a squad of players equally capable of holding down their place.
We won't want someone who is happy to sit on their arse, they have to WANT to be in the team.

Is Duffy better than Dunk and Goldson? Not what I have seen of him. Is he good enough for the Premier if we get promoted? Again a No from me.

Duffy is good enough to play for his country and was highly thought of at Everton, he's played in a poor Blackburn team but that doesn't mean he's not a good defender.
I would suggest Hughton thinks he is at least as good as what we have or we wouldn't have been willing to pay £3.5M for him.

Not according to Hughton.
He mentioned it was a priority at the Fans Forum (last Thursday), to the Argus (last Friday), in post Derby interviews (Saturday)

Is he a free agent? I thought he was still under contract to Villa

Either way, you're bonkers if you think that we're going to pay that sort of money. On the Stephens thread a Burnley fan is saying that they won't pay more than £30k a week for a player and you're talking about paying that for a fourth-choice Championship CB. How do you think that will fit in with team harmony? Can you see Dunk being happy with a reserve back earning more than he does?

Let's get another CB in by all means, but let's be realistic

I am not suggesting we should pay him that but using it as an example of what such a wage would cost. He was probably on that at Villa but at his age wont expect to continue on that wage. As regards Duffy playing for his country it was only Ireland who are not blessed with numbers of great talent so much so that they have to dig into the family history of many who arent good enough for any other country usually England.to make a reasonably competitive team.

IMHO ..I don't think he is all that ...I wonder how much of a team player he is

Lescott's knees are gone aren't they? That's been the rumour since his time with WBA ended. Either way, the drop off in his performances last year was absolutely staggering.

Why did you purposely miss out the two words"to date" ? That's not an overreaction but a fact. Stop editing my full sentence it's pathetic and childish.
Edit? I didn't edit anything. I used your original quote, go back and read it. It is in the same bloody quote you quoted.
You're over reacting, being petulant and quite frankly a muppet.

3 games, 7 goals scored and 0 conceded. We do not know what the situation is on the recruitment front. We have had no reports of failed bids so far, so for all we know, the club is making sure who ever we buy is a suitable replacement.

Or we could just sign anyone, because then that won't be a "failure".

I have more faith in the club than someone throwing their toys out the pram because we haven't bought anyone. Recruitment has been sensible, I suspect it's being slow because it's meticulous in order to fit Hughton's requirements.

This young lad IMO will be a club Captain in years to come if we manage to hold on to him, he was a free steal from Southampton FC a few years ago.
What is happening with the lad Hall, Barclay, what is White like compared to Dalliso at this age?

Apologies for bouncing an old thread from 2016, but sick of all the Leeds delusional coming on saying things like "you had no idea who he was" - so how about this thread for 2016? I've highlighted a few observations below...

Note, I could have also bounced any of these

From January 2017 Ben White
From August 2017 Ben White
From February 2018 Ben White

We moved on two of our promising young CBs (Dallison on loan, and Rea permanently) and brought in Hall, with SPL experience - but young White gets the nod ahead of him. Perhaps the powers that be think that White is actually a gem of young talent that can actually move up this season and be our 4h. choice CB?

I think that playing alongside Dunk he would not let us down , based on the EFL Cup game

Surely it depends on how good he (White) is not how old. I assume the clubs thinking is that he is good enough hence Dallison on loan and Rea allowed to leave.

Hall and White both already having featured pre season and not looked out of place.

Personally I think it is a positive step, but not forgetting it is driven by policy and probably a desire from within the club to show that the Academy with its massive budget is developing and working, rather than a youngster that has jumped to the head of the queue due to having an obvious greater talent than some of his peers.

It seems he has caught the eye of Hughton this pre season and jumped ahead of players such as Dallison, Barclay and others, so good luck to him, I havent seen him for a while but he was always very assured and dare I say it sometimes too casual but I look forward to see him progress this season.

As has been said by others on here, Hughton has said he is looking for a CB. That may well be the case, but of course hat doesn't mean he will actually get one. He has however brought in Hall, and White now seems to have edged ahead of him. Perhaps it will turn out to be the case that these two between them will be our 4th. choice CB; competition between them for the place - good.

A risk maybe - but quite an exciting one. I for one wouldn't be too unhappy if CH and co. decide to run with it.

Agreed. The likes of Hall and White are potentially the next Dunk and Goldson.
