Certainly a very powerful blast. Unfortunately expect to see a high number of casualties

I’ve still got a couple of sparklers in my kitchen drawer left over from Bonfire Night and my opinion is that us was caused by highly explosive sodium nitrate.

Appears the flash point of the explosion was the building to the left in that video. The last on here (if slowed down) shows it perfectly.

That building (according to google earth) is the ports silos. Wouldn't be surprised if something from the initial blaze has caused a couple of highly explosive chemicals in the silos to mix and, combined with the fire, react with one another like Tianjin 5 years ago.

I have no theories as to what may have gone on here whatsoever, however this being the catalyst for WW3 would be a very ‘2020’ thing to happen. I know, shit things happen every year but this one’s a doozy, ain’t she?

reported to be a fireworks factory?

no way that was fireworks
so tell me, what is the expert view of the reasons behind this from portslade ???
the shock wave would have taken out the whole arena in a firework display, some banger that wouldve been. Gas explosion maybe or more probably munitions

So, I think we are all agreed, it's not a fireworks display that has gone wrong ???

Jesus, that is horrendous.

As a side note, if you've not yet watched Once Upon a Time In Iraq, you really should. 5-parter an hour a piece on BBC iPlayer, an in-depth study of the invasion of Iraq from start to finish and the aftermath, from the viewpoint of journalists, photographers, victims, soldiers, a commanding officer and many more. People who were there on the ground, and footage you just don't see on the news. Some of the stuff from Mosul and Fallujah...well. And the interview with a captured ISIS grunt...bloody hell.

Essential viewing.

Was going to start a thread on this. It’s absolutely compelling viewing. Well worth a solid BINGE.

Also if you like this type of thing then I would urge you to check out Bitter Lake by Adam Curtis. Astonishing documentary on the origins of Wahabism and the inevitability of the decent into the formation of Al Qaeda etc. Adam Curtis, Bitter Lake: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p02gyz6b via @bbciplayer

My money is on the second blast being a dust cloud explosion.

I have since ruled out my theory regarding the silos and it being a chemical reaction. Watch the bottom tweet!

I read that as the origins of whataboutism and was about to visit the brexit thread, but thought better of it.

One of the most terrifying explosions I've ever seen. God knows there must have been something VERY explosive in that building.

That bottom angle is horrific. You have to fear that was a live stream and the person filming it may no longer be of this mortal coil.
