Bielsa said that if Ben White spent a few weeks or a month training as midfielder, he could have the same impact there as he had as a defender. Wonder if that could be a possibility considering the number of CBs...

Oh I said that a few months ago on here and everyone said I didn’t have a clue.

Why were we relegated? Was it because of injuries to our defenders, and not having appropriate cover? In that case, probably. Were we failing to score goals to win the games? Were we "found out" and struggle to play Potter's tactics as he wants them to be played? Were we just not good enough across the whole pitch? Then no, having Ben White in those circumstances wouldn't have made a difference.

What we do with the Ben White situation is going to tell us so much about where we are as a club.
Do the big clubs sell their hot prospects as soon as they show a bit of promise? Did Tottenham sell Harry Kane as soon as he was worth something? Did Liverpool offload TAA for a quick buck?

Do we have aspirations of being a top 10 club? or are we always going to teamsLikeBrighton?

Bielsa is the only manager in history who could coach a player to learn a new position. I was told this by Brighton left back Dan burn.

Hopefully BW will play for the Albion next season, as he will fit perfectly into GP plans.
We have to ignore the bullying tactics of the bigger clubs flexing their muscles, picking and choosing who'd they like to buy.
The Albion have to fight the urge to sell, giving us another season in the PL.
KEEP OUR ASSETS

Exactly this.

Utterly baffled how some of our own fans want to “cash in” as soon as we finally produce a real tangible prospect from our academy.

He hasn’t even played for us in the PL yet!

This is win win situation. He’ll greatly enhance our squad and his value can only increase. If he’s as good as everyone hopes, then there’ll be other chances to cash in, and probably for a lot more money as well if he’s called up by England.

It’s all part of the plan.

Selling him for 20 odd million to Leeds now would be terrible business for both football and monetary reasons. Thank goodness those in charge of our club are a bit more forward thinking.

He has, Harry old chap. He started the League Cup fixtures against Colchester United and Oxford United in the summer of 2016.

You know what I mean.

Oh come on we know TB is likely to be all starry eyed because it’s Leeds and simply accept their first derisory bid because it’s the right thing to do.

Same thing happened with Mark Beeney let’s not forget. Wilkinson arrived for talks with a mandate to go up to £1.25m and Barry Lloyd uttered the immortal words “£350,000 and I won’t accept a penny less.” Then sat back in his chair and puffed on his cigar thinking he’d made the deal of the century.

It’s what happens when the Champions of Europe get involved. Didn’t you know?

Still far too many of our fans stuck in the sell anyone you get a decent offer for Withdean poncho era. Like has been said this is a test on whether we're ready to join the big boys or are still just a small mentality club.

Sort of agree - but it's still ultimately about the money. Sell him for £20M to Leeds (or anybody else) - no, absolutely not; small club mentality with knobs on.

But suppose someone came in waving £100M up front? Unlikely, I know, but can't see that being rejected out of hand! So, offers between £20M and £100M - where's the tipping point, do you think?

I'd expect the club to find it hard to turn down £50m+ but as it's highly unlikely anyone would go that high at this stage, I'm sure he'll be with us next season

Obviously. I'd say anything north of £45m is going to be tempting and at that point you'd have to say it makes sense to sell. Although with our recent recruitment that would get you a Locadia and AJ with a little bit of change. Would mean we could go large on a striker though.

For me it's £40M where things become complicated. I'd say we rate him, in todays market, at a value of £20M - £30M. But we want to keep him, that was always the intention, so you can take his value and then add a chunk on top because we are not keen to sell. £40M seems to be the number for me, not so much because of the money, but because most clubs will not being getting close to that figure, all things considered. So if we were to recieve a £40M bid, it would be from the likes of Liverpool etc. If that happened, then we have to think about what to do because it's quite likely that he would be interested in that kind of opportunity if it were to materialize.

It's possible we would still try to keep him, and maybe the price would go even higher, but once we are talking £40M, we are almost certainly talking a top 6 club, and once we are talking a top 6 club, keeping him will be difficult because he may decide he wants to go.

But I doubt anyone will be willing at this stage to go that high, so I expect he will be here next season. His suiters will watch closely how he does in his first season in the Prem. If he does well, his value goes higher and a top 6 club may come in for him for next season, paying as much as £60M if he does as well in the Prem as he did in the Championship (which is not garaunteed, but not impossible either).

You’d think the news of Lallana signing must help Ben White realise he’s at the right club heading in the right direction.

A terrific top pro for a young player to learn from.
