So are we agreed that Mooy hasn’t got the strength and aggression to play the Stephens role? We missed any bite at all in midfield yesterday

Gross and Propper seemed there more than Mooy from what I saw.....

But yes agree Mooy not strong enough in a deeper role

He is also a leader, Dunk just looks pissed off and although his displays may be inspiring I don’t see him as a leader. In fact we are very short of leaders in this squad.

I would say the choice is Mooy or Gross in the forward midfield role until Macallister arrives and is ready.

Alzate needs to play CM as if given a run in that position he will progress v quickly to a v high level, more consistency to his performances than Mooy.

The anti-Stephens brigade very quiet....

Not at all. The issue was not missing Stephens because he’s been dreadful lately, we were not any better when he played recently were we? He’s not good enough anyway.

The issue was picking the wrong three, everyone except Potter it seems knew Propper, Mooy and Gross was never, ever going to work. Alzate should have started and if not him, then Bissouma.

Gross should be nowhere the side at the moment.

Really don’t agree.... I think their goal showed the value of Stephens as he would have covered that.

Bissouma? Oh dear.....

Stephens was very good at West Ham

Without him as defensive midfielder/pivot we struggle

Agree not room for Mooy and Gross in same team

Newmarket.
Gross has quite evidently been below standard for a while now. It can only be that he looks fantastic in training and Potter doesn't think we have anyone better.

Still comfortably the best set-piece taker and crosser of the ball from a consistency perspective.

But to me he is a no.10, and rarely plays there under Potter.

Also unless we are playing Murray there is next to no point in playing him, as Maupay and Connolly are ineffective in terms of being a target to aim for.

He just doesn't have the snap and bite that the team so desperately needs.
But then we've needed that for years.

There’s not enough slots for Gross to start, and we now know he can’t play as a winger as he has zero pace.

4 at that back, DM, 2 wingers and a CF, that leaves just 2 places for -

Mooy, Propper, Alzate, Bissouma and Gross.

On current form, shirley that’s got to be Alzate and Propper?

Showing your inherent bias again here I'm afraid.

The rational view is that we most definitely missed him, not that he is irreplaceable.

No he can’t. But our wingers are weak.
Perhaps the formation is all wrong.

We also have MacAllister.

Yep, had a very good game against West Ham, it was his probing left to right diagonal forward passes that caused them so much grief down their left.

Someone did say earlier he may have and a muscle injury/twinge rather than just being left out.
