But are the kids on the counter just told to churn the drinks out to make money or act responsibly like a pub landlord would do?

Not sure I can see how the club can do any different, beside those kids are not club employees anyway, the club don't sell the drinks or control the catering

This is all down to bad stewarding. From my seat in the North I could see Villa fans abusing and goading people across the segregation for most of the game, they've basically picked the easiest target rather than do anything about the bigger group of away fans.

It looks like this bloke has reacted to the abuse and then been singled out by the stewards for having a go back. He's obviously felt aggrieved and refused to go quietly when they chuck him out but let the Villa fans get away with it.

He made a stupid mistake by not just leaving when asked and he's paid a heavy price with a conviction for assault because someone got struck in the melee.

It's an unfortunate situation and someone has made some bad decisions, I'm not sure that warrants any personal abuse or making him out to be the scum of the earth.

Bang on.

Thing is , they prob would of looked for the banning one way or other and the unfortunate kerfuffle has rubber stamped it.

He comes from a family that have supported the Albion home and away for generations. His behaviour at this time was obviously overly boisterous but of course he did not mean to hurt a female steward. Because of this one mistake, you have cowardly, got gobby over the safe internet divide and insulted his looks, called him a moron, tit, knob-head, tw@t and a coward. Pot, kettle, black.

Wow, been a real week for being offended on behalf of others.

By the way, read back and he wasn't called a moron or coward, someone said what he did was 'moronic' and someone said it was 'cowardly'.

From what you're saying he would be insulted and offended by being called a tit or knob-head, or angered by the suggestion his ears need sorting out. No wonder he lost it next to the Villa fans. Taking the piss out of someone's looks is just asking for an overreaction.

Well, you can be a tit, you can be asked to stop, you can stop . . . . .or you can tell the steward to eff off, and then get into a flailing arms fandango.

You can stop, or you can carry on and get a ban.

You can stop, or...

You can stop.

If a lot of people decide not stopping is the better plan, yes, they may get banned.

Nothing to see here

I'm having that for a band name

I never suggested he meant to harm the female, but his totally unnecessary actions resulted in her being hurt. Whether we like it or not, we are responsible for our own actions. And just to be clear 1) I didn’t use all those terms and 2) I said his actions were twattish etc, not that he’s a ****. There’s a difference.

I did take a cheap shot at his ears though. That was unnecessary.

PS what relevance does his family have to this?

JEEZ!

Worthy of yet a further banning order I'd have thought. Might happen in Germany, but that kind of foul behaviour should certainly STAY in Germany

I sort of agree with both of these.

If you're going to sit families next to the away fans then you need to make sure that the stewarding is absolutely consistant across the two groups of fans. Anything that will upset the families coming from the away end should be cracked down on exactly as anything coming from home fans next to them. From observing some of what went on from WSU and reading that over sensational Argus report it is quite clear that different stewarding standards were applied across ten metres of magic mesh.

Personally, if you're going to crack down on both sides then as Arthur says you might as well kiss goodbye to what precious little atmosphere remains. What would make sense for everyone is to put a singing section in the SWC and concentrate the family area at the north end of the East Stand.

This means massive moves around for large groups who won't be happy so it's never going to happen.

"... it is quite clear that different stewarding standards were applied across ten metres of magic mesh".

Exactly. My point in an earlier post.

Far easy to target a handful of Albion fans, than wade through many Villa. Typical Amex policing .. a 100% clamp down on home fan misdemeanours, not so for a packed away end.

Club were right to ban him. If you act like a knob you have to take your medicine. If he still wants to, there's a way back for him after he's served his ban. Sad to see a man from a proper Albion family make a mistake like this.

Totally agree with those who are saying the stewards will always just find the easiest target. Their main concern is having an easy life, and for most of them, to watch as much of the game as they can whilst getting paid for it. None of them want to wade into a hostile away end, but they need to be seen as if they are doing something so they take the least threatening looking person from the periphery of what was going on.

No idea what happened as I wasn't there, but I imagine, the bloke got caught up in the (perceived) unfairness of him getting picked out, let the beer and machismo affect his better judgement and stupidly stood his ground as they tried to chuck him out.

His family reference was more for other posters that stated jcl, second team etc. I agree his actions caused the female steward to be hurt and that was unacceptable. However I don't think the rest of your remarks were at all necessary for someone that made his first football related mistake, admitted responsibility and apologised. We all make mistakes in life and this, whilst being stupid behaviour, was not all that serious in the scheme of things.

Interesting to see the calibre of the of posters defending him.
I’m sure if he’d elbowed your partner or daughter in the face as he was tussling you’d have just told them to stop whining, it’s football, he’s just a bit excited.

Carter admitted assault at the first opportunity and showed remorse.

She said he has worked as a gas heating engineer for the past eight years and is a father-of-three and hoped to start taking his four-year-old son to matches.

He has written an email to apologise for his behaviour to Brighton and Hove Albion.

This, in combination with his fine, would have satisfied me.

I most certainly wouldn't want to see him issued an FBO.

It's heavy-handed and oppressive priggishness.

If I’m perfectly honest, I couldn’t really give a shit what happens to him. Don’t know him, don’t need my boiler fixed, don’t sit near him. They can give him free season tickets for life or send him to the gulag for all I care.

I take it the ban isn't open for review.

The club get a nice headline.
Fella misses the rest of the season for being a moron coward and tit (that's right isn't it)
He's then quietly allowed to return at the start of next season

I think there is the FBO imposed by the court, and then a potentially longer ban at the Albion's discretion.

No chance, no idea if you can appeal an FBO through the court system but even if you can it'll never be worth the expense.

I'd hazard a guess that each FBO goes on Darren Balkham's crime solving stats so he's never going to give that up without a fight!
