[Albion] Will the club wait until midnight 31st Jan to clinch deals?

I’m interested to see if there are any changes to the many reasons why we can’t bring in a top striker comments from Barber. Will it be before or after the window closes?

And no I don’t expect anyone of note to arrive.

The thing is surely it’s always going to be a challenge to bring in a good striker. Regardless of the window you’re in.

We have a Recruitment department purely to deal with this challenge. Why are there not deals lined up by 01.01? Or at least earlier in the window. We haven’t learned from our brush with relegation last season. This squad needs more quality, especially up front.

I'm also frustrated with our failure to land a decent striker that isn't a headcase (Andone) for what seems like YONKS. But I think it is simply impossible for a club of our stature to line up a first team capable striker like that. I think players and agents will look to keep their options open for as long as possible.

I guess we will just need to see what happens come 23:00 on the 31st and pass judgement then.

Which makes it odder we've completely binned off Murray

We are no longer little old BHA playing at a ramshackle ground in a lower division. We are one of the top clubs, in a top league in a top stadium. We have a third rate recruiting team regrettably - our business should have been done well into January, given Andone & Locadia left so early in the season.

When the transfer inactivity is controversial, TB sometimes steps in with the programme notes, to quell the fury.

Same cliches though.

Talk of a notoriously difficult January market. Whilst rivals have miraculously plugged squad weaknesses.

I hope TB proves us wrong this week, with business, loanees would be fine.

Maybe the management relaxed, we were in a good position with Ali coming good and a set of easy (!) games coming up, looked like we were safe. But with all those below us winning and improving we don't look so safe now. Expect a panicky Belgium/ Slav to arrive any day now

Must admit that weirdly the closer to the deadline it gets, the more exciting it becomes.

Each day a signing becomes more likely.

I'm sure we'll bring in 1 or 2 players, perhaps on loan, and who wants a dull deadline day anyway ?

Of course, the downside of delay is that the West Ham game is only 6 days away - it would be nice to get the letters on the new guys' kits in plenty of time.

Agreed. Anyone we can land easily is probably not worth getting. If there’s competition, all the power lies with the agent and it’s in their interests to leave it late.

But not so late that the selling club cannot get a replacement and slams its own transfer out window shut...

The Argus say we won’t be, expect a quiet week.

Last January about half the Premier League signings were made in the last 3 days of the window. 2018 was similar. The idea that the club should, or even could, get all their business done early is fanciful.

I don't particularly believe them as it happens.

I expect 1 or 2 incoming and 1 or 2 outgoing.

It's only when the club makes its 'transfers are finished' declaration that I think they are.

Doubt we're doing any business this transfer window but would love to be proved wrong.
