A decent club with a rich history, ambitious and a nice city.

I think Glenn will love it there and who's to say Nottingham Forest can't get automatic promotion with the run they're on. At home to Reading tonight with their game in hand.

Very sad to see him go but wish him all the best and scoring a few in the Championship.

Thank you for all your efforts, Glenn. You'll always be a legend.

I can't believe how many people are claiming (presumably in desperation) that Glenn can be our saviour. I love the man but he has been absolutely dreadful this season.

People got far too carried away with that little cameo at Everton because he got across his man well and won a header once. That is all he has done in the league this season, he’s been way off the pace otherwise and was for the second half of last season too. He missed an absolute sitter in that Everton game as well.

Been a wonderful servant and I really wish him all the best for the future but he is definitely not the answer to our problems now. It is a damning assessment of the recruitment team that this thread has gone on this long.

Baffled by the results of this poll, he was finished half way through last season. He has been utterly hopeless every time he's come on this season. Club legend but he needs replacing. Letting him go without signing a new striker however... now that would be stupid.

He played Jan 19 to May 19 – I don't remember the goals flying in when we were in the shit then either?

The difference perhaps being that this season he might have other Brighton players within shouting distance! We have seen occasions (and not from set-pieces) this season where we have got five or six players in the opposition penalty area - a scenario in which the wily old fox could - albeit only for brief periods, not 90 minutes - thrive. Last season if we had one player in the penalty area the others would be shuffling back to their defensive positions in out own half.

Funny how almost everybody feels this was a season too far.

Yet 6 months ago I was roundly criticised for saying this was a season too far:-

https://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?373798-Glenn-Murray&highlight=murray

Sadly though if the Progress Police on here get their way it won't be the final memory.
That'll be of a man unable to keep up with the speed of thought of his team mates, unable to hold onto the ball and unable to stay onside.

Reviewing this thread in 6 months time is going to be somewhat comical, as the last acolyte turns out the light.

You know, looking back it wasn't quite as bad as people think, there was some dross of course, but home to Watford in Feb 19, the 0-0, we 55% possession, 21 shots on goal. A week later, home to Burnley, 68% possession, 16 shots, 6 on target for our 1 goal. Home to Southampton, 60% possession, 14 shots to their 8. It wasn't all Murray up on his own and us defending. Might have felt like it overall, but the Burnley game in particular as I remember we played pretty well.

This exactly,Murray isno more the saviour than Peter Ward or Bobby Zamora would be next weeekend. We need to buy a decent striker NOW. End of.

Totally agree.

But where are we getting a striker from who’ll be better?

Criticise Palace all you like but at least Woy has acted by getting in Tosun. We have signed no one and are arguing about whether our 36 year old back up should go or not.....

It's an almost impossible question LWS, I can see the sense in blowing beans in someone like Giroud, or a similar short term fix at a price. . . . I suppose It depends how TB's cards are stacked. It certainly doesn't seem to be the right time for relative bargain punts, we've done that.

No guarantees whatever the gunner does or doesn't do. So our best hope is GP squeezing a bit more from the gang than CH managed last year. Squeaky bum time!

Today’s Argus suggests that’s it for the transfer window ( Mooy) and Murray going nowhere. As you were then and big gamble taken on whether we have enough to stay up.

Anyone actually surprised? Those worrying about Murray leaving can probably stand down now and carry on championing him as our saviour....again!

Or is there going to be a well kept secret reveal still to come?

Classic Albion transfer story. It does also say we will do a deal if 'the right opportunity presents itself' which probably means we are hoping to do something or are negotiating a deal and we're trying to keep a lid on it.

Yep, same as most January transfer windows. Anyone remember the last time that phrase was used and we ended up making a great signing? I don’t.

Standard stuff.

We are broadcasting that we are not desperate to sign anyone.

Using the local press as a negotiating tool.

Better than telling every agent and club out there to crank up the price as we are buying come what may.

I don’t think negotiations on players are anywhere near that simplistic. If we are interested in a player and are struggling to agree a value there is absolutely zero mileage in sending a message via the local rag. It’s not like the agent or club are going to read that whilst already in negotiations and go “oh shit maybe they’re not interested we’ll lower the asking price.

I’d suggest we are being readied for “incredibly difficult to compete at this level whilst remaining sustainable with our budget” to come after the window shuts and nobody of note has signed. I would so love to be wrong.
