[Albion] Still keeping the faith with Potter?

Yep, still loving the positivity and taking the games to other teams however good they are. As long as the players don’t lose confidence from these defeats we should be OK, but I’m still not raising my expectations above an enjoyable season where we just survive.

Of course I am. What loon would urn on him at this point? He's only been here for 5 months.

Contract extended to 2025

I find this extraordinary - he's only been here a few months - he's done pretty well (even despite the Aston Villa LC communication disaster) - but I know enough about football to appreciate that however well he is thought of now by the board, there will come a time between now and SIX years hence, that he'll be under pressure, find the fans are fickle, and the board too probably.

There must be more to this story, doing something that really doesn't need to be done until the end of this season at the earliest.

Maybe they are confident that another big team will be in for him at some point, and then it's all about the level of compensation that can be demanded. Otherwise it'll be a very hefty payoff when things go awry.

He's lost the last two, will probably lose the next two, and thinhs could look very different by the turn of the year.

Sorry for the pessimism - but I bet he's not here in 2025 - and I hope he has fun at Everton, Arsenal, West Ham or wherever it is they need him most today.......

Very rare that a manager sees out his contract - he's either poached or binned.

As I said elsewhere, this looks like a pre-agreed extension following a 6 month review dependent on certain targets being met. TB is clearly confident enough that Potters stock will only increase with us, and so is making it expensive for prospective clubs to prise him away. He had to pay over £2m to Swansea in compensation to bag him, so he'll want to recoup that at least if a year or two down the line some herbert comes knocking and turns his head.

Course, its also an expensive sacking now as well, but thats not gonna happen....is it.

The fact that we have extended his contract for such a long time would suggest that if anyone wants him they are going to have to pay massive compensation. He appeared to be happy at Swansea but we are a much more attractive proposition then them at the moment so we made an offer he and they couldn’t refuse. Don’t discount a BIG club coming in for him, at present that could be WHU, Arsenal or Everton. If the offer and the club is big enough he’ll be on his way, I don’t doubt that. It would mean that we have a genuine talent on our hands, although plenty on here still have doubts.

Agree......and on the other aide of things, I suspect his loyalty to the club has just ticked up a notch too. Imagine the scene - called into TB's office this morning unexpectedly - probably thinks he's going to get a bollocking for leaving 2 v 2 at the back against Leicester and Tony slaps a shiny new contract in front of him and tells him what a great job he's doing...........................

Well well well... looks like Tony and co. Clearly still have faith in Mr. Potter that’s for sure [emoji106]

Makes sense to me, not many young progressive England managers around, we love the football philosophy, he’s tactically astute and flexible, and fits the model in terms of bringing the kids through.

I’ve long said if we go down I can see us sticking with GP to bring us back up.

That's where my mind went. With all the paper talk of Everton, Watford, West Ham considering management change, this feels very much like a 'hands off' to other clubs.

I just don't see any of those sides being interested in Potter at this stage, he is a dozen games in to the Premier League.

2 seasons time when he has established us a mid table prem side.... playing good football then a Everton or West Ham will maybe come calling.

I see the extension as a reward for Tony getting his love of football back like many of us on here thanks to GP and his team

Which is what Andy Naylor is reporting in The Athletic today. It's a vote of confidence rather than a strategic move.

Keep the faith, yes we probably will lose a few of the upcoming fixtures, but Tony ain’t stupid, got exactly what he wanted from Hughton and sees what he needs in Potter to take things further. We’re on TV for most of the next 6 weeks, the brand of football is already bringing in extra cash to use on transfers.

Tony had a dream..to build a football team..with an English Manager and an Irish wonder kid..3 at the back..pace in attack..we’re Brighton and Hove Albion..we’ve made our way back! Potter had a dream..to build a football team..with an English owner and a Columbia wonder kid..3 at the back..pace in attack..we’re Brighton and Hove Albion..we’ve made our way back!

And of course he’ll be off if a big 6 club come knocking further down the line, not happening until the club are properly established in the PL though.
