Seriously? Looks like the lad got on with his life we’ve all done stupid shit in our teens. Let his parents grieve and leave them alone ffs.

Fair enough, it's not exactly something the family are crying out for right now and I won't pretend I'm totally heart broken by this either. I just think we need to reflect. If you knew he had the condition he did and was only going to live a short while, would you (not you directly) have been so harsh on him at the time? Probably not. So next time the mobbing starts boiling, let's consider who's maybe on the shit end of this sort of fun. After all, I'm sure no-one here wanst to hear of another sad death of someone who once got bullied on here.

Bullying is bad, cyber or otherwise, and, as we know, it can have horrific consequences. If we had just learned that someone had killed him/her self because of a thread where they were bullied, then people who piled on would, quite rightly, have to take some responsibility. However, it seems like Jamie had his life together, and there doesn't appear to be any connection between the legendary (and cringy) thread, and his death. Participants can feel guilty if they wish, but it seems far more useful to vow, in future, to defend those being bullied. As Megazone points out: we can never know how close a victim of bullying is to being pushed over the edge.

I don't think NSC should contact Jamie's parents because his death is not connected to the 10 year old thread.

I have no opinion on whether or not to remove the thread from NSC.

I think I must have joined just too late to get the 'Jamie' thing - I recognised that the verb 'to Jamie' was in common use on here, and I sort of guessed it was something to do with putting someone in their place.
Had a look on NSC Gold (something else on NSC I wasn't aware of until today!) but couldn't find it - not helped, I guess, by the fact I don't know what I was looking for! Or perhaps Bozza has already deleted it, as someone on here suggested? I'm not sure it should be deleted, btw - it's history anyway, and it's not as if it caused the poor lad's untimely death - RIP Jamie, and condolences to friends and family.
So - could somebody please point me in the direction of the relevant thread, or, if it is no more, give me a brief run-down on what it was all about? Thanks.

I'm paraphrasing and working from memory but here goes. Jamie started a thread trying to sell his new singing, all dancing website he'd created that would allow football fans to 'meet' and chat about their team. There was some charge for using it - £10 rings a bell. It was pointed out to him that it was rather a pointless thing to sign up to and pay when we has NSC. A few also pointed out some quality issues with the site. This lead to some slightly unsavoury reactions from Jamie. His site then got hacked which sent him sky high into a homophobic rant. He even suggested he would bomb Withdean. Bozza ( I think ) suggested he should moderate his responces and that he wasn't anonymous as he thought. Cue more vile ranting. Problem for Jamie, Bozza was right - for starters some of his details were used to register his domain name - including his home address. And so the NSC detectives went to work. In a very short space of time we all knew a LOT about Jamie including were he went to college, his Facebook and social media pages, who his sister was etc etc. That left him fully open to people sending him pizzas, skips and taxis to name but a few items. The local taxi firms got so many requests for the one address they started refusing to go there. The thread even got linked to on other football chat sites. IRC even some Palace joined in. Bozza did, a number of times I believe, give him a way out but to no avail.

Was it funny at the time - yes
Would it still be funny if we didn't know of Jamie's untimely death - yes
Was it bullying - quite possibly
Was Jamie a complete knob at the time - yes

While I don't condone bullying Jamie dug his own hole and continued to dig when a simple 'sorry all' would have stopped the thread dead.

I'm also of the view that the tread should stay if only to highlight what could happen if someone decides to throw around vile comments and threats.

Obviously RIP Jamie - most people don't deserve to die young.

Maybe for you it seems a ridiculous idea but for the ones who didn't participate in that thread, it might seem like a nice thing to do. It's an apology for the twatish behaviour played out by a group of lonely middle aged losers on a young teenager who only came on here to try and get people to join his football forum.

His passing has made some people realise how bad it was that some of the NSC folk were getting self gratification out of basically bullying someone. The fact it went on gold just shows how pathetic this forum can get at times.

Letting Jamie's family know everyone here now feels bad for their ****ish behaviour will do more good than bad.

Can’t argue with the sentiment of doing something nice for a grieving family. It would probably come across a bit weird though.
And hey, the nsc collective are not all lonely middle aged losers. Some are just losers. (That gag is copywright Stewart lee btw).

The thread has a lot of different things involved with it.

Firstly, he gave as good as he got to start with, but wasn't internet savvy enough to realise himself, that if you are going to start giving homophobic and other kinds of abuse that you are not always anonymous on the internet.

Secondly, the thread created a 'bystander' effect. There were very few people on the thread who said it was going too far, as well as the fact that nobody actually knew for sure if he was getting random stuff ordered for him or if it was just internet bravado.

I didn't participate in the thread but I felt sorry for him and felt that it served him right for being silly, at the same time. As I said, that thread was my introduction to this forum and rightly or wrongly it had me crying with laughter. It was six of one and half a dozen of the other to start with. I genuinely think that, if he could have got the same info from posters on here that he would have done the same in return though.

I don't think the thread should be erased and i think leaving this one and somehow putting it with with the original thread is a good idea. We can then read them and take what lessons we individually want from it. It's very odd putting a face to the name though and that is another point that people should think about when everyone is having a go at each other on here.
As someone who didn't participate in the thread at all but watched it all unfold, I agree with pretty much all of this.

Clearly it all went too far, but a lot of it was self inflicted. And despite his age, he should have known better than to behave the way he did - 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

For all that, I can't say that thread had me rolling in the aisles. It was amusing especially in the context of the time, but to me it is less funny nowadays and has dated horribly because of the awareness we all now have of being internet savvy. Personally I'd be happy if this thread was moved from Gold - not because Jamie has sadly died, just because I don't think it is funny in 2019. What comedy value there was is now looking decidedly dated IMO.

What it may show is something very positive coming out of Jamie's sad death, remorse.

2 wrongs don't make a right. Something a fair few on here at the time ignored

I'm sorry he's dead, and I didn't contribute to the thread, and I certainly don't find the 'send them a pizza' comments remotely amusing, but I have read the thread and I don't feel any remorse. When you reach out to people you need to be aware whether it is 'all about them' or 'all about you'. I think getting in touch with the family now would be 'all about you' (by you I mean those on here who are now feeling remorseful).

NSC will make a donation to the British Heart Foundation.

Reading the article, it seems Jamie died through due to arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy, something that it seems the BHF lead research into: https://www.bhf.org.uk/informations...rhythmogenic-right-ventricular-cardiomyopathy

Regardless of what you think of that thread, a young football fan died and the BHF undertakes work that may benefit us and/or those we care for.

That's a very considerate, kind and generous thing to do.

It was funny. Nobody was hurt. He made a mistake and was made to pay in hilarious fashion. We can't worry about every comment we make in life because the person to whom we are referring may possibly die too soon. It was probably just something that his mates ribbed him about and I'm sure he has since laughed about it too. Nobody should be made to feel guilty over it. I think we are getting a bit carried away with our own importance. This is however very sad news. RIP Jamie.

Agreed, thanks, saved me some typing.

And my twopennyworth (and I won't post again): There's a lot of sanctimonious bollocks on this thread about cyber bullying. Jamie was not some innocent victim that a pack of bullies decided to turn on just because he was different - he started it. And then he upped the ante with his vile homophobic abuse. Obviously it's incredibly sad that he died so young, but no one on here should feel guilty as the two events are totally unrelated. Hopefully he learnt his lesson and spent the rest of his tragically-short life as a nicer person - I'm sure he did.

RIP Jamie.

It did get out of hand. Yes, Jamie bought it on himself, but the resulting events would have impacted his family, local businesses making unnecessary unpaid trips, probably a fair amount of stress and anxiety to those he lived with. On reflection the punishment dished out affected far more people than just Jamie, a young lad at the time not realising he was so exposed for sounding off on the internet.

So while I agree with you that his behaviour was vile, and he had plenty of opportunities to apologise etc. but the actions of what resulted were probably felt by more than just him. I doubt a skip lorry driver or pizza delivery man is paid a lot, but they had unpaid trips that week. Wasn't good on reflection for just a few laughs.

What is done is done. People need to reflect if they feel it necessary, and stop pontificating about how others should behave and feel.

Interesting that all the suggested shortcomings of that thread have only now become prevalent as a result of his passing, IIRC the said thread was happily being discussed a few months ago with great gregariousness.
