You have a point there, but we are ridiculously lightweight upfront and on the wings! Watching Bong spray crosses into the crowd, should be a memory from the past few seasons!
A tad harsh. I thought Bond had only 1 cross into the crowd.

Tonight was the first time I've actually enjoyed it so far, Watford were atrocious, but the way we dominated throughout was excellent. Just needed a goal.

loving the football but with a 36 year old main striker, a youth team kid (albeit a talented one) and Maupay as our strike force, and the usual zero goals from midfield, we are are going to struggle imho.

Swansea under Potter scored 10 goals in their 10 first games last season.

I understand people want goals but when you have to make massive changes to how the players approach the games psychologically while also implementing an entire new way of building up the play, pressuring the opponent and keep possession instead of always finding the safest/easiest solution... you just dont have the time yet to perfect how to act around the opposition box.

Someone probably says now "but that should be prioritized first because you need goals to win".

Well - no, its not the highest priority. If you have a lot of possession, movement and pressure, there's always a decent chance of finding a goal or two, but if you have no possession, bad movement and dont know how and when to apply pressure, you can spend every training session dealing with what to do in the opposition box and it will be no use since you'll never get that far.

Yes I know it doesnt work like that in Football Manager or FIFA or.......

The Premier League sometimes!

Have you ever seen Burnley play?

They are drilled and organised to perfection but are only top drawer at stopping goals or scoring them. They play ‘percentage football’ coming alive in the ‘moments’ where games are won or lost. They do a lot better than us every year by concentrating on those two areas. They don’t need much possession or many shots to achieve what they do time after time.

Very dull football though.

And I hate them.

Still finding that my overriding takeaway from games is frustration at how ineffective the football is at the moment.

Of course, if you have a Tony Pulis or Sean Dyche or any other coach for 5+ years there is a good chance you can succeed with a very "niche" football regardless if its Potterball or Dycheball. Burnley got a team of grinders who were all born to play Dyche football. Dyche could make Burnley come 7th in PL, but if i.e. Ajax would join PL tomorrow and make Dyche their coach they'd likely be relegated.

Potter's work in Östersund sort of proved what Potterball could mean if you let it grow for several years and build the squad around it. Never before and never again will a Swedish Allsvenskan side hoover around a 90% pass completion ratio.

Also, if anyone has seen Sheffield United yet, we are VERY similar teams- but they are doing much better so far.

Yeah, their coach has been working with the team for three years while Brighton has had Potter for ~3 months so its not exactly rocket science to understand why they have come further in implementing and succeeding with their style despite being newly promoted.

Never seen us boss a team and turn them into a broken mess as much as we did today.

If we can start to find goals consistently we will be laughing all the way to mid table.

Great performance to a certain point.. If it's not our inability score it's the other bugbear which is defending. We played a woeful Newcastle team who were there for the taking lets not get away from that fact.. That's for 5 shit teams we have played and its only produced one win. If you cannot beat these sort of teams then it will only lead in one direction. RELEGATION.

Last season, didn't we lose to Watford away and lost to Burnley at home? We also lost at home to Soton last season, so by your definiton we would should be playing in the Championship now.

And have you forgotten going 12 hours without scoring?

I feel like that we are inches away from being a seriously good team atm, but i'm also hesitant to just hope things will improve. This is a ****ing tough league and you have to take points when you can.
I'm loving the way we're playing, but we were pretty impotent up front today.

Yeah, for sure. Potter won't say on camera but I'd imagine inside he's really disappointed with our points total to date considering our performances

No not exactly rocket science. We've spent what? 180 million?
