I don't like, or agree with, this talk of "nailed on relegation". Firstly, there are always teams that do worse than expected and teams that do better - we could easily be in the latter category, and there are plenty in the former. Secondly, our squad isn't anywhere near as bad as people think. Though I certainly think we need two more signings, if we go to Watford with the following team I think we have a chance:

Ryan
Duffy - Dunk - Clarke
Montoya - Stephens - Propper - Bernardo
Gross - Trossard
Murray

We still have AJ, Locadia, Andone, Bissouma, Jose & March as attacking players not in that team too.

So yes, we need players, but let's not underestimate the players we have

I love your carefully thought through first team and optimism, but to me it doesn’t solve the fundamental issue of a CM (especially ACM) lacking pace and mobility.

Even Burnley, Cardiff, Bmuff and Stains bossed us with a pacey midfield trio - giving them a huge edge over us on the counter and without the ball.

For all their guile, Propper and Gross are slow at PL level.

Thank you. At least I now know there are others out there with similar thoughts. I just don’t get the lack of meaningful recruitment by our club in the positions we need to fill, or the posters who seem incapable of understanding how seriously short of being competitive we are with our current squad.

I think I'm one of those people you don't understand. For me it is due to the change in our playing style. I don't think Chris got the best out of our attacking players and over the course of the season I hope Potter will. Saying that I expect us to sign a striker and a RB so I do expect two more signings but we have a week and a half to sign them so I ain't worried yet.

Bloom probably has total faith in our recruitment so believes we don’t need further signings to stay up . What he has invested will come good . ( makes the knocky thing even more curious )

Maybe he’s right but we all saw what we were last season and the league looks stronger .

I reckon 1 possibly 2 in at a push ( risks ) but expect Murray or Andone to be starting Watford .

As it stands I’m pretty sure we are going down and I’m ok with that as long as we have a bit more fun on the way . We should be competitive in championship but could be a while before we get here again .

It’s a mistake to not chuck money at it a bit more but then it’s not my money . The prem is all about money now so you either play by the lie rules or you ultimately don’t participate for long .

Had hoped potter would have a war chest but it is what it is .

Potter needs to be a genius , that much is clear . Hughton was to an extent but that argument is done . If potter is found wanting at all then it could be embarrassing

Still keeping the faith but a lot can see what’s coming

Still time though and I’m calming myself potter will be a magician

About where I am, plus I’dd add Chris didn’t gave any of the talented youth as much as a sniff of a chance so we might have a hidden diamond there somewhere. No wet sheets here but even with previous signings hopefully coming good and a bit of youth thrown in still think we need a couple of ‘PL ready’ additions.

Gyokores?

Most of them are on loan now anyway.....

Hopefully Alzate will get a chance.

I'm excited about the Youth side of things. He seems to have taken a liking to Alzate. Sanders seems to be our RB experiment, and if Baluta (he wasn't in the u23s last night so I'm guessing hes with the first team) is half the player the Romanians claim he is, then he should be starting.

Whilst I don't like using the word Newcastle in anything BHA related, the inescapable fact is we haven't signed a decent top flight striker anywhere near his prime for decades.

The one we signed who has scored 48 goals getting us promoted and keeping us in the premier league in the last three seasons doesn’t count because er ?

Or Ulloa who scored a lot of goals , made us a lot of money and is a premier league title winner doesn’t count because ?

This pretty much sums up where i am. I approach the coming season more in hope as opposed to having any belief that we have what it takes to survive. The PL is not the league where you trial a rookie (at PL level that is) manager and coaching team and a majority of players who have failed to demonstrate that they are PL players and especially when you have invested minimally in the squad in the summer and when you have given away your talismanic player (ok, I know, high maintenance too) for peanuts. Lower level survival in the PL seems to be via 2 main routes: Stability, gradual development, year on year squad improvement (think Burnley, Bournemouth etc) or massive £££ input + quality managerial input + stability (eg Wolves, not Fulham) plus the existence of 3 teams noticeably worse than us (I've a feeling this won't apply this year).

Zamora wasn’t bad either - either spell

He didn’t get much of a chance (couple of cup games ?) and looked out of his depth when he did.....hopefully the loan out will be good for him.

Baluta, Richards, Alzate, Sanders perhaps........interesting to see. Appears that Potter has made some clear decisions on who is ready and who needs some time at a lower level to develop.

Too much hyperbole flying around for me - ‘nailed on relegation’ etc - when we’ve no idea what’s going on behind the scenes, either in terms of Potter and his views on the squad and how tactically he’s going to use them, or whether there are any signings in the pipeline.

Completely understand the views that this season could be a total car crash, but equally it could be a revelation. We could be lamenting Chris’ sacking or raving about Potter’s magic hat. I’m going to just sit on the (slightly optimistic side of the) fence until we’ve played a few games as I simply can’t believe TB would take the level of risk some on here think he’s taking - he wants relegation far less than anyone else.

Good post.

But Gyokores did get a chance, and if it’s relegation or blood the youngsters, I know which way I’d go - but I am risk averse....

I am a little surprised about the clamour for Richards, I thought he was okay but unspectacular. Of course the penalty, then changed the overall outlook. Interesting, as an aside, his family were sitting behind me and they were getting quite annoyed with him at times about his movement. They were pleased when he scored though!

Baluta and Alzate I would hope make it this season (have always rated Alzate).

I am very much glass empty (apologies), at this moment in time.

Get ready for Lickers posting that all is well, we need to be patient, there’s still time, blah ****ing blah...

What is rather more depressing than the perceived lack of transfer window activity is the return to these boards of the use of an unpleasant and derogatory word for unfortunate people with very real and serious problems as an insult to anyone with the temerity not to agree whole-heartedly with the poster's particular opinion. Very poor. Not impressed.

I believe we will shortly be announcing a signing, but it will be a former player returning to work with the PL2 squad as player-coach under Simon Rusk. Not a bad idea as the exodus of players on loan will make for a very young squad.

I totally agree.I too am worried about the lack of transfer activity, but lets be honest,we only need 2 maybe 3 players capable of improving the starting eleven.Still time to sign them surely? Abuse does not help.
