We actually signed more players than that last season in the final stretch - didn’t include Baluta and others .

Will we sign them for certain , will they be any good ? Who knows . Nobody knows.

Is it not on the cards or not practical in time available or not something that been reported for months ? No. It’s not.

Is it different to other clubs ? No it’s not.

You’d struggle to believe the demographic on here is Middle Aged men given the responses to AK being let go. Furthermore the complaining about lack of signings when the whole transfer window has been changed and every team (bar Villa who are doing a Fulham scatter gun, which worked so well) hasn’t really signed anyone is ridiculous. There will be a lot of movement in the coming weeks as teams get to grips with the new windows timing. Calm down.

What is a sign of anything happening short of them signing ?
It’s a circular argument. Why do prefer to assume the club is doing nothing ? What would reassure you they were beyond a player holding up the shirt ? Nothing I guess .

Rather than us seeing the dawn of "Potterball", could it be argued that we're actually seeing the culmination of "Bloomball"? We know that we have been using performance stats and other algorithms to find "value" in our transfer dealings for a while now. Our performance last season could be seen as an indication that this approach isn't working. Assuming Bloom and his team have reviewed the maths and not found too many errors, the other key variable was Hughton and his coaching team's ability to realise the value from the signings.

Appointing a manager (and technical director) who focuses on developing players to their strengths (Ali J, Jose and Trossard have all had great attacking stats) removes that variable and, therefore, should result in Bloom's approach working.Or at least it will provide a proper reckoning as to whether it is a strategy that can sustain a club in the Premier League.

That doesn't mean we won't get any more signings but it could also explain why the whole messaging from the club has been to manage expectations on the number of new players we'll be getting in.

Good post. Tony has one of, if not the best analytical brain in the business and also has a huge team of stat geeks at his disposal, plus the likes of Ashworth. Maybe all the analysis (plus what we saw over the season just gone) led to the clear conclusion that the manager was the problem.

We still need some ‘PL ready’ reinforcements IMO but it’s going to be fascinating to see what happens to the scapegoat crew under new leadership. I’d bet on Tony being more likely to have got this right than wrong, particularly given previous mistakes (yes, that’s you Sami).

This is a good post, but also suggests we are taking an enormous punt... my guess is we are almost certainly down with no more signings...
