[Albion] Giving Kompany a Standing Ovation

It was a nice thing.

Bruno was given a magnificent send off from pretty much EVERYONE in the ground .... And I was happy to clap Kompany off .... because he's a belting footballer, I like football and I appreciate his work in entertaining me.

That's fair enough. Where I'm different is I actually want the top opposition players to play badly and show as little entertainment as possible. It's a strange game football when you pay top dollar to watch the best football in the world but hope for the best players to be injured or get sent off.

Not injured ..... Sent off for fighting with each other would be great!!!

Not necessarily the best players but ...

You actually want players to get injured ? That says rather a lot about you !

He still might be playing for them next season and yet he gets a standing ovation when he leaves the field. Why?

But yeah, obviously footballers aren't getting a god like respect these days, they only have airports named after them, statue's built of them, football clubs paying them insane money, people collapsing in their presence etc.

They don't work hard, live a very pampered lifestyle and earn a ton. I have no problems with that, I'm sure they must experience a lot of boredom throughout being a footballer too, so it's not all glam. But anyone outside of football would assume Kompany's contribution to football was sacrificial after that standing ovation we gave him. I just had him down as someone who played for Man City. No big deal. Surprised me that he got the same standing ovation from us that Bruno go considering he might not even be retiring. But then again, I suppose some people see these super star footballers as Gods?

At the elite level they are well paid, as are other sports stars, musicians, bankers, movie stars, inventors, company directors, owners of gambling companies. They bring lots of joy to fans and some, such as Bruno and Kompany, have qualities as human beings that many admire and are applauded for it, although I suspect that your envy prevents such admiration.

I think you'll find it's the ones who post negative stuff about the team, the manager, and the club, who didn't stay and are complaining about those who did.

That is utter rubbish.

We all have different opinions on different topics and to compartmentalise things like that is ridiculous

No it isn't. Being retired and not much else to do with my time, I spend quite a bit of it on Nsc, and am quite observant.

To be fair, not only is Kompany a fine and loyal figure, he is a decent man and, in many ways, something of a Bruno figure..... but not as Bruno like as Bruno, obviously.

I noticed yesterday how enthusiastically he greeted Bruno as he was substituted yesterday, the appreciation of a fellow top professional. So I was happy to clap him off yesterday - probably the individual "top drawer" footballer for whom I have most respect.

Couldn't agree more. Credit to the fans yesterday for showing class.

I was pretty enraged by that. I didn't see City fans giving Bruno an ovation but I'd have preferred had we recognised that we had been outclassed by kompany's team and he was the enemy. All I was feeling was bitter disappointment that we'd capitulated or rather been shown up so badly on the last day of the season.

Really, is that really how you saw the game and how you felt. If so, I suggest you find a new club to support. Maybe Liverpool or City, you won't have so much disappointment in your life!
