Sorry, but that sounds like a fanboy desperately trying to defend something that, ultimately, was a massive disappointment to most viewers.

I think that's an overexaggeration. IMDB score holds up compared to the rest of the series. Obviously you have the 5% hardcore book fans who will shit on the TV show no matter what, but the mass market enjoyed it a lot.

I personally thought Episode 2 was comfortably better, but as a visual spectacle 3 was stunning, even with the plot holes/issues.

Always amazes me that people look for everything to moan about, this episode was spectacular.. look at the pure work that went into it, if you haven’t already have a gander at the HBO YouTube channel where there is a 40 minute show about the episode and how much effort and time was put into it, it’s spectacularly ignorant of some in my opinion, give criticism where it is due but this episode did not deserve the critique it got. The most farcical were the comments about lighting, the same people moaning about the lighting would have been moaning about how ‘unrealistic’ it would have been had they made it any lighter.

I really feel like nowadays people look for a reason to moan rather than moaning about legitimate things.

Not sure that i agree with you. IMDB gives the episode a score of 8.8. The average for GOT (all series) is 9.5, with episodes like the Battle of the ******** scoring 9.9s. A score of 8.8, for what was believed to be a crunch episode, to me reflects a level of disappointment. I accept that 8.8 is still an exceptionally high score for IMDB on the whole. If anything IMDB would show that overall impressions of this series (so far) are down on the prior series, with The Long Night just being a reflection of that.

However i am hoping for a storming back end of the season to make up for it, and fully expect it to be superb.

I'm also hoping, but have my fears. This episode in particular has left some pretty huge gaping holes - particularly the Bran/Night King stuff, that if they don't resolve will be a massive **** up.

You’re not up for a discussion on this obviously

Arya killing the NK will be a massive own goal.

If the NK had killed or neutralized the 3 eyed raven, he'd have crumbled his army and returned back across the wall with his white walkers - maybe even fixing the hole in it to keep the south out.

Why were the white walkers regarded as evil ? Because of a history written by the winners.

Instead, the south is now left with the evil Bran.

I think.

Bran being evil would just come out of nowhere, and I don't see them dropping that bomb this late on. My god that would give people something to whine about !

I'm just going to watch and enjoy

However they wrap things up some will think its great and some wont.

It's a plot turn for sure.

I just hope the remaining 4 hours are a little more epic than just a visit to Kings Landing to have a bit of a tiff with Cersei.

And therein lies the issue. I enjoyed it whilst I watched it, but the moment I started to spend any time actually thinking about it, it began to frustrate me no end at just how poor the story and writing was. Maybe they'll rectify that over the coming few episodes, but there were still a ton of holes in that episode and if none of the remaining characters start questioning the battle plan over the coming episodes, then it's a massive sign that GOT the TV show really has lost the perspective that made it stand out in the first place.

Just caught up on a BINGE last night. E3 was exhausting but thoroughly enjoyable. I do however agree that too many of the main characters ended up having miraculous escapes. I wasn't expecting a bloodbath, but come on. About 4 times I thought Brienne was about to snuff it, she was so ovewhelmed. How the frig Sam survived I have no idea, being as he seemed to spend most of the time just sitting there softly weeping. And I'm not sure why the opening assault was a ground attack cavalry charge into the unknown, when shirley a full-on sweeping airborne dragon napalm attack would've been the wise move ?

But I'm quibbling. As a spectacle it was gripping, and by the end I actually felt knackered as I realised I'd been sat there clenching my arsecheeks for the best part of an hour. I could've cut a diamond up there.

Wow - great episode. Very emotional opening scenes and at least one very big shock, all topped off with some great acting. IMHO Game of Thrones is at the top of its game
