Bloody hell, are you really trying to compare slagging off scousers for misbehaving to racism?

Not really as they are English. But it is interesting that earlier in the thread someone already mentioned that Scousers 'are not English'.

It is accusing a whole city of acting a certain way because of where they live, so it is a very mild version of racism. My Yorkshire husband has had it at his workplace to a mild extent (not banter either) and I experienced it when I worked up there. It isn't pleasant and you just have to grin and bear it.

I have met and worked with lovely people from Liverpool (and other places) and met some real arses too. Everywhere is the same.

We can dismiss this as "Liverpool" if we want to put our head in the sand, but the reality is, and we ALL see it, is that once you get a group of otherwise decent people into a football crowd, whether inside or outside the ground, something go very wrong in their brain. I can't explain it, but we all see it all the time.

Whether it's abuse dished out, offensive chanting, or just being CU Next Tuesdays.

It's something about the tribalism of football that just unhinges peoples brains. It's disgusting.

I don't even think it's confined to football – or even sport in general. You only have to look down West Street at chucking out time on a Friday or Saturday night and you see some dreadful behaviour – by men AND women. Many of whom – like the instigator in those videos – who are old enough to know better.

The cause of the problem? Alcohol – simple as that.

I came down to Eastbourne aged 18, in 1989, from Yorkshire. I had a thick Yorkshire accent and I got ripped to pieces at my new workplace! "Eh up lad, where's yer flat cap" along with "where's yer pigeons?" with raucous laughs from all concerned were a daily shout.

I shrugged it off, simple as that. In the end I ran into the canteen and shouted "IT'S BEEN STOLEN!!! WHO'S GOT IT? WHERE IS IT?" in a total panic, puffing and panting.

They all sat up, looked very concerned, and said "What? What's been stolen??"

I shouted "My Whippet, you Wankers!" and everyone burst out laughing. After that, it all stopped. I was 'accepted'.

Sometimes you've got to laugh it off.

They do on this board. It's strange as a comment a few posts up claims there are lots of secret reds here. One could claim that those who keep posting, week after week, about their dislike of Liverpool and its people, are secret Man U or Chelsea. There seems to be around a thread a week having a go at Scousers lately. What next? West Indians, Pakistani people, Jews?

The behaviour of a minority of English fans when abroad sadly continues to be shameful and utterly pathetic. More fans should call them out.

Yes and it's tribalism generally, not just tribalism in football. So you could look at how people behaved in the London riots or the historic behaviour of victorious armies to see that when people think there are no consequences of their actions, because there are plenty of others doing the same, societal norms quickly break down.

I agree and he has many a time, but there was one occasion when it got out of hand. I'm not going into details on a public forum but it was out and out prejudice.

This is a football forum. Liverpool fans are in Barcelona to watch their team tonight. So twist it how you like but this thread is about the behaviour of Liverpool football fans in Barcelona.

I’m fed up with the media love in with Liverpool, the only team where the world has to fall silent when YNWA is played before a televised match. Any other club and coverage gets switched to the adverts. No not Liverpool because they invented football support and they lead the way. Same about humour with “everything they say is hilarious”.

Get real. Liverpool fans are trouble whether it be raiding shops (pre planned) in Paris and other European cities, attacking City’s team coach, fighting on the terraces of Heysel, and picking your pocket!

Fortunately, I'm now of an age I no longer see the sights of West Street at chucking up, I mean out, time. But I remember it well. Yes you are right of course, alcohol does play a big part of it, but not exclusively. Certainly not when it comes to abusive and obscene behaviour in grounds. Cast your mind back to the abuse those Chelsea fans were dishing out to Sterling earlier this season. They weren't all drunk, possibly none of them. But something happens to peoples brains when in a football ground, or in a football crowd.
