I'll attempt to keep a long convoluted story short.
On Sunday Lil Miss Stat (13) had the arse
Finally she plonked down on the sofa.
I was watching German Eurosport.
At this point they were in the 6 man break.
I said to LMS "so who's going to win?"
She looked at the screen and German commentary and replied:-
"Well Peter Sagan doesn't look like he'll win".
Not many 13 year old girls would have said that.
Memorable race I thought. Intense pace throughout. Strung out nicely with 40km to go. What a performance from Gilbert.

I actually did her a huge disservice, after her correct assessment of Mr Sagan see went on to say "the one in blue will win".

As soon as that group went away I said Phil Gil would win...he just looked so strong and comfortable all afternoon. Amazing P.R this year. "Slightly" annoyed though as I should've been out there watching it live!

Apart from a blowout at lunchtime today (my first one in 2 years, but it was down to old tyres splitting rather than a puncture) I've really enjoyed getting out on this over the weekend. Basically a stock Rockhopper, but the drop bar position is so much nicer than a flat bar when zipping along the gravel & uphill on tarmac. The gears arent perfect (cant use the biggest chain ring, or the largest sprocket at the back) but they are more than enough for what I need on the surfaces I will be riding. My back & arms will probably complain about a lack of suspension at some point, but its a really fun ride regardless. Will get some new rubber this week (26x1.5/1.75) and keep the full sus Giant for the proper rides over the Downs. "Herman" is going to be perfect for riding along the river at Newhaven, and the gravel pathways around this area

Just got myself a gravel bike. Never had so much fun in my life.. Get some strange looks from MTB’ers when I’m up top on their territory.

I was seriously contemplating a gravel bike, but just didn't have the funds....hence Herman being born from various bits and bobs laying around at home! I had read quite a bit about monster-cross bikes, & liked the look of them, so it was a perfect compromise tbh. Just a few tweaks needed, but looking forward to getting out on it over the summer.

I do love the Tour of Romandie (which is underway) but starting with a 3km prologue? Hardly seems worth the 5 minute effort for the pros. They may as well ditch the warm up on the rollers and, as a team, just settle down in a local cafe for the afternoon. Each rider can then just pop off at their start time, and still be back before their cappuccino gets cold

I would assume from the times being posted at the moment, most of the riders will have spent more time trying to contort themselves into their skinsuit then they will have spent out on the course.
Getting really excited about the tdy now. Got my Sussex flag, got some new Shimano shoes and getting used to the terrain round here
Me too - stage 2 runs through my village and I am really excited to see Froome, Van Avermart, Cav, et al pass through. I live just after the end of the neutralised zone, and actually rode the first few k's of stage 2 proper the other day. Am planning to do the same again on Thursday evening to take in all the bunting and street art. I'm really impressed by how the local community has embraced the race - I've only lived 'oop north' since last summer, so this is all new to me. If this happened in the Midlands, people would have been moaning about the road closures and 'bloody cyclists'.
There is also a festival of cycling in Barnsley on race day, so I'll pop over to that, between the womens and mens races.
It's not coming quite that close to me but Stages 2 and 4 are both within 3 miles of me so can't complain
I haven't seen that much bunting etc. yet except lots of Yorkshire flags in Otley. No doubt there is plenty though, they've been banging on about it on Radio Leeds.

I had to travel up to Manchester last weekend, and took the A628 from the M1...beautiful scenery round that way, and didn't realise I was so close to Holme Moss. After chatting with my dad he emailed these over to me - me riding up Holme Moss 23 years ago! Beautiful weather at the bottom...gale force winds and drizzle at the top.
Would love to get back up to that area & go riding again one day...especially when the TDY is on.
Absolutely loved it that one and only time (when I was 5 stone lighter & half my current age!)
