If only we could wait until after the crucial relegation games before deciding who needs booting out.

:albion2:

As fans we only see what happens on a Saturday afternoon and from that form opinions and IMHO unless we can replace some of the dead wood we are going to be in the same position next season, Do we want that, does TB want that? NO.

It's a good conversation to have.

But not until after the games v Bournemouth, Cardiff and ( hopefully all resolved by) Newcastle.

It is a long summer. Why can't this discussion wait until May 19th ?

Genuinely staggered that anyone would suggest getting rid of March.

Would he be a guaranteed starter? Perhaps not. But the boy has talent and has to spend 80% of his time defending (which he is VERY good at). Getting rid seems madness to me.

Out:
Bruno :)()
Kayal (if Hughton's not playing him let him go get some regular football somewhere else and let's bring someone else in that will be played)
Bong (willing to keep as backup full back but let's face it, we can do better in this position)
Izquierdo (said in another thread I think his hearts not in it here and we need more quality on the wing)

In:
Better defensive CM to push Stephens out and back up Propper more effectively
Winger
LB
RB
Mitrovic or similar to go ahead of Murray

A team like us on average should be looking to drawing at home to the top 10 teams and losing to them away = 10 points
Winning at home to the other teams and drawing with them away = 36 points
TOTAL 46. Anything extra is bonus.
We currently have 33 with 3 point matches against Bournemouth, Newcastle and Cardiff to come. Plus Man City at home. So using my system we should end up on 43 3 points just short of average but over 40.
No major overhaul is needed. Just get rid of the fringe, Bruno, Bong, Steele (to let Walton step up) and the oldies already not in the 25. Possibly AJ as we already have 4 other wingers plus Gyokeres.
Bring in a creative midfielder a proven striker and a versatile defender. And have confidence that if needed, Sanders, Molumby, Connolly and co could do a job.

Bit early for this thread. Hopefully we end up about same points as last year but from entertainment view have gone backwards. To avoid another relegation fight must change some players and accept not good enough. I would start with Knockhaert, Stevens Gross and March. Because they have all played a lot of premier games championship clubs would pay a lot for them to help get promotion. Fees received go towards improved new players

I'm sorry but this thread really does make me smile, if Chris Hughton took due heed of what everybody on here advises, we would have no players left, none at all.

Out

Steele (I think we need some serious competition for Matty Ryan)

Schelotto
Hemed
Towell
Suttner

Despite it being too early to comfortably discuss, the harsh reality is that it does seem like it is

Steele v Walton v Sanchez

for the 3rd goalkeeping place in the 25 man squad.

Why would you want to release our top scorer expecially when he has just signed a new contract? He might not be 1st choice next season but surely he would be useful to have on the bench?

Murray, by his own admission, wasn't expecting to be first choice this season. It's only because the club failed to improve on Murray that he has started so many games. Andone looks good and may be an upgrade on Murray but he is a very different kind of player and Hughton seems reluctant to start him (when he has been fit).

I would be sorry to see Bruno go but he can't keep going that much longer. Hopefully he will retire (rather than move down the leagues or abroad) and the club will immediately find room for a man of true class and experience within the coaching / managerial setup.

I would not bin off Kayal at all. He must be a total pain to play against and he is the one midfielder this season who can drive forwards from midfield. I would start him ahead of the slow, negative Stephens every time.

This is getting boring now. Why domwe always need a scapegoat? Stephens is a “bad” player simply because we’re not winning games. His job is to shield the back four, keep the ball ticking over and effectively manage the game. He’s bloody excellent at this and we are lucky to have him.

I must admit that I too find it frustrating when we’re a losing late in games and he’s stood 5 yards away from our CBS on the halfway line doing something one of said centre halves could and perhaps be doing. But he’s under instructions and the reason he remains on the pitch at these moments is the reason we rarely get done by 4/5s like other teams around us do.

Stephens when we’re wining games = incredible, undroppable asset.

Stephens when we’re losing games = moves the ball too slow, too negative etc.

Meopham, Kent.
Sacking Houghton is the first priority.

I agree, he is rubbish on Talksport, so full of himself, and anyone who disagrees just gets the "well have you played the game" attitude.

But quite why we're talking about Ray Houghton on here again, I have absolutely no idea.

A couple of quality creative CM’s next to/in front of him, would give us an excellent PL centre midfield.

Correct, Tony Bloom will never sack Chris Hughton. He has, and continues to do, so much for the club. As I said previously, we are punching well above our weight, have one of the lowest playing budgets in the Premier League, and should be grateful that we are even playing there.

I wouldn’t say we’re punching well above our weight, we’ve won twice this year. But we are in our rightful part of the PL.

I watch most games on various streams and most commentators are very positive about Stephens.
