It's a rivalry. It doesn't qualify for derby status under the 1907 Football Ground Proximity Definitions Act. It does qualify as a close rivalry.

It's a derby - I don't care what it's called but it's a derby match. Even on this thread people are saying 'well, it's a bit further than your average trek for your Duke of Edinburgh award' So what? Ipswich and Norwich are further apart. Swansea and Cardiff are further apart and Liverpool and Manchester are similar distances. Are any of those not derbies because it's not a motorway end to end or there are roadworks on the M52 or that it's not walkable for the local ramblers?

This portrayal that Croydon to Brighton is like a trek up the North Face of the Eiger is utter horse shit.

Totally agree, I consider it a Derby whatever name you give it.

I don't like travelling East on the A27 on a matchday. For that reason I am going to stick with:

"The A22, A275 (Get stuck at Cooksbridge crossing), A27 Derby"

I think you'll agree it is a snappier name.

You missed out A277 as the road from the A27 to the prison is now bizarrely called. #geekybrother

Nope, its a Sky, Premier league, journalist who knows nothing about either club gimmick. Dont recall ever hearing it "Pre Premier league".

In my opinion.

Certainly a Derby game, just lose the M23 prefix!

Call it whatever the #### you want.

I'm up for the Seagull/Eagle Derby

Nobody is complaining about the distance between the two clubs but the silly link that Sky have attached to it. The M23 is nothing to do with either club.

I think the above is a better description.

It's wrong because neither us nor Palace have ever used this term, it's just some media shite. I mean, this is now the fourth instalment of this rivalry in the premier league and the media are still tittering away at our rivalry. With all respect to Paul hayward and nick s' efforts, can the media please just get it already

Ok...what should we call it then? “Clash of the Titans” “the London to Brighton classic tit rally” “The rumble in the bungle” WHAT....?

Johnny Cantor on radio Sussex has described it as the M23 Derby, so I don't have an issue with it. Just a catchy name for the neutrals really.

EVERYONE calls it that except for some pedants on here who don’t realise that someone built a stretch of Motorway in the past 30 years.

Does it matter what neutrals call it? I’ll always call it “Palace” and I know some of them call it “Brighton” we all know what it means.

Think somebody once referred to it as "El Crappico".

To the rest of the football world who don't understand the rivalry that is probably rather apt.
