Are their any port afficianado's on here? I have recently discovered several bottles of Dow's 20 year old port tucked away at the back of my late father in law's drinks cupboard. The family reckon they have been there, untouched, since at least the 1980's. maybe longer.

That being the case, the port was probably bottled way back in the 1950's or 60's. I'm presuming that port improves with age, like a fine wine? Am I likely to be disappointed do you think?

Not for me Mrs Wembley as I am having a bit of a dry January. Actually feel fantastic and full of energy for the first time in years and for someone who liked to lay in of a morning I am now normally up by 6.

Big test tomorrow though as first time in a pub because someone has organised a skittles night for everyone in the neighbourhood.

I don’t like port but my Stepdad is something of an afficianado and he reckons even the cheapest of ports will improve with age and continue to do so for decades. It’s definitely one of the longest lasting wines. I think you’ve struck a little pot of gold there. Enjoy.

I would sip and savour every mouthful, should taste lovely, if not rub it in.

They have Owd Rodger on at present 7.6% as a draught beer a bit much for me!

I finished on one of those, blumming marvelous. Started with a Butty Bach which was equally fantastic. Back home now, Burns Night dinner, home made sort of Haggis, can of Hazey Daze at the moment. Will eat dinner with a bottle of 2009 Chateau de Courlat, a decent St Emilion, I bought a case back in 2011 and have been nurturing them since, just 3 bottles left.

I did briefly peruse the booze-free booze section of the supermarket the other day. it is quite a range nowadays, although it seemed to be roughly half alcohol free and half 0.5% abv. I was briefly tempted to get a few different things to try but then thought better of it!
