Went to Five Guys in Leicester Square a few weeks back.

Burger, fries and milkshake x 2.................£32.00

too be fair thats leicester square. whats going to be reasonable in america is going to be outrageous in the west end. same with shake shack on new oxford street. they go from about $5 - i paid $8.90 for a bacon double cheese the other day. not a hipster in sight but if served up with a cocktail stick through it in brighton people would have been beside themselves. plus a root beer instead of some overhopped nonsense that is as far from rewriting the rules on beer (apart from if the rule was for it to be subtly tasty) as is possible.

large fries are unfinishable and of course $2 something, refillable sodas. five guys is brilliant - but in America. In St Martins Lane, you are gonna get your pocket picked.

As an aside I've just opened an Abstrakt AB16 which is Belgian Quad infused with coffee beans at 10.6%. Very nice it is to.

Good stuff. You've mentioned to me that you like your German pilsners before, and the UK is knocking out some good ones.

Last year I organised a blinded taste test of UK pilsners versus their German counterparts; 3 from each country. The tasters were 50/50 British and German. The UK Meantime Pilsner won.

Trolls Pantry for me although I've not tried Burger Bros which [MENTION=292]thedonkeycentrehalf[/MENTION] rates highly.

The Troll has an ever changing menu and his sauces etc are always interesting. Rumour is that he is looking for his own place this year and moving from the Hobgoblin.

Burger Bros menu doesn't change but they are in my opinion the best quality and value burger in Brighton at the moment. It's just a shame that their place is so small but it is always busy and is run by very nice people.

Have to say I am over the craft beer fad. I have been enjoying Stella, Peroni and Pacifico more to be honest.

As for a good burger you really can't beat 5 Guys and In 'n' Out in the States. Shame 5 Guy's is so expensive in the UK, it really is great value in the States.

My problem with Five Guys is much the same as my problem with Subway, I don't like having to spend ages listing every ingredient I want to go in my burger. I much prefer just pointing at an item on the menu and saying, "I'll have that please". Even after that I don't find their burgers better than any other "artisan" burger I've had.

As for craft beers, here in Toronto that's all I seem to find in most bars. I enjoy the majority of the ones I have, but I have to be careful to avoid any which have the word "hop" in their name, why do they make so many ridiculously hoppy tasting beers?

Burger Brothers serve a decent burger. Agree with you about GBK though.
