I am absolutely staggered about this transfer for a couple of reasons. Surely any player that is a regular in a successful top division European side that has played in continental competitions would command a greater transfer fee than £1.5m and also we must have given him some special assurances about a starting place in the team and our future prospects for him to come to us.

Looks like a handful, a unit, can finish well, and not short of an assist or two. Utterly brilliant signing.

It just goes to show how over inflated the English transfer market is. If he was English he would of cost us 5 million

Sounds like a good signing. With LuaLua, March, Murphy and Manu all vying for the wide positions (and Rosenior an option there for tough away games), we look like we have real options on the wing. If we sign a forward in the next couple of days, this is probably the best Albion squad I've ever seen (and even if we don't, it's been an amazing transfer window).

Dutch friend of mine rates him highly. Strong and very nippy, thinks he will do well in the championship - he is very surprised he came to us. Asked him about Holla when he signed and he thought he'd be underwhelming - so guess he knows what he's talking about.

Comments from a Dutch friend who follows Eredivisie closely. Let's hope he's better than average.

it’s a man of actions, sometimes his drive brings him into positions that gives a chance, but I was really surprised he left the dutch competition. Much too early. He didn’t prove himself to be stable or showed that he is more than average. He played with Feyenoord, which I still consider a top club, but I didn’t consider him a top player, even for dutch competion he was not top.

Maybe Feyenoord didn't treat you, quiet as good as they should have. Little things they should have said and done... but we're so happy that you're ours. We've got Manu on our wing, We've got Manu on our wing

Transfer fee for Elvis Manu is 1,2 million euros, could rise to 1,5 with bonuses. 4,5% of sum will go to Excelsior Rotterdam.

If that's true it's more like 700k than 1.5mil right? It's weird how differ bet figures get banded around. Goldsons fee was reported as £1mil and then apparently it was more like 500k up front...

Which brings us back to the Boca Juniors man Jonathan Calleri and the price quoted.

Different parties have different incentives for over or under stating the price. The selling club will say the maximum possible fee they could get, including add ons etc, while the buying club will usually say just the upfront fee. Rivals or 'sensationalist' newspapers will say the total fee, including add ons, including wages over the contract length. Look at what happened when Falcao joined United.. people were saying he was a £16m signing for one year when in-fact £6m with the rest as salary.
