would say as London clubs go Tottenham prob have less 'local' support than many - not only has a white working class remained more in Islington than in N17 but l'arse have attracted immigrant support in a way spurs havent

would also say that to me having been brought up in home counties where there is no sense of one local club, I feel the albion thing pretty strongly. Just wish more of you would support you actual local team ie the rebels

So it's down to immigration then.. Ha ha

How does that work for Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea then ?

Chelsea had always drawn predominantly from the Wandsworth and still does. Not the odd chappy walking up the Kings Road.

The ten mile argument by another poster was hilarious. That's a huge catchment area in London terms.

You could live in Croydon and still within 10 miles of Stamford Bridge.
Considering 40% of white british have shipped out of london in years gone by YES it is down to immigration.I would suspect that many chelsea,Spurs and arsenal fans don't live in London and a high percentage too.
All the surrounding counties are the pulling areas for London clubs now and that's where most live 😀

Hello peeps Fulham fan coming here in peace. Not come to wum, bait or take the p*ss, generally have a peek at other clubs boards to see how we`re percieved and have to say this is probably the best one I`ve seen. Loads of non typical interesting stuff. Really looking forward to coming down next week, first went to the Goldstone in 1983 and have some great memories of that place, a few bad ones too. Think its fitting that a club the size of Brighton with a loyal support have a stadium like this. Fulham and Brighton games have always had a bit of a derby feel about them, both sets of supporters have travelled in large numbers over the years and things occasionally get a bit "lively" off the field.
We got given an extra batch of tickets to take it to 2800, sounds like theres a few who have bought tickets near the away end in the home stands, pretty sure they`ll be respectful really looking forward to a weekend in Sussex by the sea.
Interesting thread this, London has 8.5 million people but most of the traditional football fans have moved out. Fulham draw a lot of their support from the south west London/surrey suburbs, its probably been 30 years or more since Fulham and chelsea had a significant local support, by local I mean in Fulham, you cant a three bedroom house in Fulham for less than £1.5 million, people have just been pushed out. i would say your old pals Palace have probably one of the most concentrated local supports in London, I know you get quite a few heading down towards your neck of the woods too, worked on a building site in town with a few Palace lads from Haywards Heath. As a kid I would spend summers near Pagham outside Bognor, I always thought Brighton would have a lot of support around there but most seemed to support Pompey.

Bognor has always been Pompey, it's much closer to them than us. Littlehampton is probably our most westerly outpost and the "border" is somewhere between Bognor and Littlehampton. Pagham is actually significantly west of Bognor so it's no surprise that is a Pompey area.

What was depressing was your correct assertion that in our dark years of the 1990s, Palace territory did creep dangerously close to Haywards Heath whereas it historically it has tended to stop around Horley, just north of Crawley. Luckily the Palace twàts are safely back in their box, and Haywards Heath is very much BHA territory once again - even with Crawley becoming a league club.

There was a survey carried out some years ago and surprisingly the club with the largest % of supporters who travelled more than 30 miles to a home game was Southampton. Probably due to lack of top clubs in the South West
I'm surprised. I'd have thought most of their fans lived in or near Southampton. I can't imagine many of their fans live in Portsmouth or Bournemouth and Reading can't be much more than 30 miles north.

Good to have a perspective from a London club fan. Ive gone the other way, sussex to London and it is noticeable. I wouldnt say that London clubs including Fulham dont have a local fan base as they do, its more that the local community wouldnt really identify with a club unless they are a fan. Agree cost of living, house prices and people moving is a part of that. There are probably lots of factors. I also think its just being a club in the capital where pace of life is faster and there is more to do.

You could say the same about the centre of Brighton

Are they not then?, would like to know how many houses around Craven Cottage are foreign owned, Americans,French,Russians and Arabs aplenty. Immigrants dont have to be from Asia, Africa or eastern europe.
One of my mates I got to Fulham with is from Clapham doing ok for himself, puts his little'un into some pre school nursery type thing and hes the only English kid in the class.
Most of the property that comes up in London is being snapped up by foreign buyers, you have whole luxury apartments pre sold bought off plan by rich Chinese etc, its ridiculous. Kensington & Chelsea the population is actually going down as oligarchs snap up houses and leave them empty.London is fast selling its soul

If Brighton reached the FA cup final again,it would be an event for Sussex for sure, but not that great.
The overwhelming majority of people in Sussex who didn't support Brighton wouldn't be that bothered really. It would be the city of Brighton and Hove where the excitement and FA cup fever would happen.

Not true – there are almost as many Albion fans in Worthing as there are in Brighton and Hove, and a lot in the coastal strip between.

I have pored through the attendances of all clubs in the London area, and cannot find a single one that managed to attract a crowd circa 50,000 to a Division III South game against Rotherham in 1962.

We can only conclude that WCP is correct in his broad generalisation.

Go to the pubs in Brentford tonight and tell the fans of Brentford and Fulham about their lack of identity.
