£3m for Wilson and £1.5m for Baldock - you just have to pay a little bit more for real quality alas, that's the truth of it - and we've blinked at doing that when you look at out summer spending. It's proved a false economy because Wilson will get 15-20 and Baldock will get, well....

I've lost count of the number of strikers available in the close season who we passed up on. Some were more expensive yes, but wouldn't it have made sense to pony up on one decent striker than spend the same amount of money on a bunch of average players? There's a reason Assombalonga, Wilson etc cost more than Baldock.....

Alternatively spend money on a proven Championship goalscorer, like Murray or Le Fondre but we seem to fallen between two stools in terms of who we bought. Compromise rarely works....

The level of apathy in the North Stand today was worrying.. many people have chosen to spend their Saturday elsewhere and the ones left wonder if they're still sane. People can take losing, but its the LACK OF ENTERTAINMENT which is killing off the support.

It's time for a change. And when he does go, someone needs to answer some questions. The recruitment process was long and drawn out (again) and we end up with an awful appointment. The star striker we had was sold and then we negotiated with other clubs with £8m in the bank - incredible.WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON????? Was it Burke/ Barber who pushed for the appointment? Someone needs to hold their hand up.

Hes emotionally involved and obversely wants the best for the club and unfortunately it doest happen overnight.

TB is clearly a very sharp cookie. Does he have the stones to admit the policy in the summer was a disaster and that strategy just won't work? Does he have the will to admit it?

As I've said a fair few times he needs to be honest and tell us his ambition is to recoup his investment by keeping it steady in the championship. That MUST have been his intention based on the players gone, those replacing and the punt on a presumably cheap and relatively unproven manager.

If it was a genuine bid for the PL then I would be very worried.

In yesterday's programme notes, it was mentioned something along the lines of a few good results and we will pushing for the PL playoffs. That old chestnut was probably wheeled-out: there are fine margins in this division and anyone can beat anyone. Blah, blah, blah. So TB and his Board really do, still, think that's very achievable this season. Whereas most fans recognise, that although that's mathematically very do-able, the reality looking at glaring squad and player deficiencies is a relegation scrap at the other end of the table. There's positive thinking and then there's being self-dillusional.

Have you really said that a fair few times?

If you are under 18 then I apologise for being unkind but exactly how mindbogglingly stupid are you?

Every season "keeping it steady in the Championship" costs Tony Bloom around £10,000,000....!!

I'm fairly mind bogglingly stupid.

I never said we shouldn't be grateful. We 100% should be. The bloke is a hero. I'm just saying id rather a bit of honesty about the fact he doesn't want to keep throwing money at it and that will likely mean prolonged championship status.

I honestly don't think it's that stupid of an opinion. Unlike many of my others.

Or even picking up a short term loan, Holt, FFS, Taylor Fletcher, the guy who went from Hull to Wolves on emergency loan. The list goes on.

They're spenidng serious money. And they're having a great season.
But are they having a great season because they're spending serious money?

Birmingham (7th highest wages bill 2012-13) sits 23rd.
Bolton (highest2012-13r) sits 22nd.
The connection isn't automatic.

No it isn't automatic, but CMS apart, when we have spent more money on transfer fees and wages, we have got better players. I'm sure Upson, TK, Bridcutt, Buckley and Ulloa all cost us more.

I really can't understand how Bournemouth are doing it. They must have the smallest support in this division, and probably one of the lowest incomes.

"he doesn't want to keep throwing money at it" is a bit different to "recouping his investment"...!!

(and is also a bit misleading given the amounts that Bloom continues to spend on the Albion)

I don't think they're that different. I'm saying he is looking to stabilise the investment, stem the losses, so he has some options to recoup it in the medium term. That would translate to stop throwing money at it so he can recoup his investment.

You're right he is spending loads and my point may therefore seem a bit churlish. However he is saying we have premier league ambition but isn't spending on players in a way that will likely get us there (for instance fully reinvesting all the fees we've received in the last year). I suppose I just want him to fully set out his stall.

This is all my opinion of course and I genuinely don't think it's that crazy.

The phrase "recoup his investment" is just barmy though...! :)

By the time we kick a ball in the Premier League, Tony Bloom will probably have spent something between £250m and £350m on the Albion. As far as I am aware, he has no intention or expectation about "recouping" a penny of this. He is doing it because he loves the club and he dreams of his son being Chairman in 30 years time.

He has clearly set out his stall on a number of occasions recently. He believes in FFP and wants the club to be in a position where it does not rely on massive cash injection every year.

I agree all of this makes a lengthy stay in the Championship more likely than not. In competition with the parachute and FFP flouting clubs we are not going to start a season shorter than about 8/1 for promotion to the Premier League anytime soon.
