As above, he hasn't said it is proof that god doesn't exist, and the Hawking quotes in this thread doesn't show anything new.

I know he hasn't. I even pointed that out. It's someone at the BBC's interpretation and the Hawking quote shows it to be false.

You honestly expect me to believe that Sepp Blatter exists?

Pseudo-science isn't science though, is it?

The Science Council definition - "Science is the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence." Seems far enough to me. Pseudo-science can and often does match this definition. I would say that pseudo-science is not the same as scientific fact, but the boundaries between pseudo-science and scientific theory can be blurred.

Oh I see. But the BBC guy says "physicists believe", which is quite different to "physicists have proven".

These guys are living proof of Darwin's theory of natural selection

The most curious thing..
Deluded nutcases - even the smallest thickest dinosaur had a bigger brain than those two put together.

What astounds me is that in the US, and to an extent the UK too, people are lobbying and at times winning the right to teach this stuff in schools.[/QUOTE

There are still many people who are not evolutionists so maybe these people should have the opportunity to be taught an alternative to evolution.

Isn't that called Religious Studies which is already taught in schools along side physics, chemistry and biology.

The 'astounding' thing is having the right to teach creationism as fact and not even teach evolution. There is surely room for both, just like there is room for fiction and non fiction in literature.

I wish you would elaborate more on this point. I know NSC can be a zoo and many people are too quick to shout down arguments, but I really can not understand your perspective as a scientist and I would at least like to get some understanding of where you are coming from.

Those that are not evolutionists should have the opportunity to be taught that humans came to be after billions of years of evolution.

I am Tarpon. I am prehistoric. That is all.

Whereabouts have they found human footprints next to dinosaurs??
Disney? Film set of Jurassic Park?

Palaeontologists use various methods to study dinosaurs and their respective dates of existence, not just carbon dating. Their argument is complete baloney and must have been acquired whilst watching too many Freddie Flintstone cartoons.

It's like arguing with a dog. They don't use any logic or reason, they just spout shit, safe in the knowledge that those who want to believe will do just that. Of course it's nonsense, and we're so far past proving it that proper debate is now pointless. All the debating has been done already, man evolved from primates millions of years ago.

The fact that this can be taught in schools as anything more than a fairytale is quite worrying.

It really, really is scary that two grown men can be so idiotic. It always feels to me that those trying to hold on to their religious beliefs is like a child unwilling to accept that Santa Claus is not real despite every single piece of evidence contradicting their hope.
