Why don't you think Burnley aren't looking for long-term PL membership? That's a very odd conclusion to come to in my opinion

There's no evidence that TB wants his money back, or that Burnley lack ambition. Their wage bill was £2.5 million higher than the Albion's for the last season we have figures.

When you've improved in each of your previous years, are only 22-23, and hope to keep improving, you'll only be 24-25 at the next contract, better than you are now, worth more money, signing a longer term deal now, may lead to less money in the long run because four year contract sets those wages for four years, a two year deal allows for renegotiations and potentially a lot more money in years three and four in a new contract.

I was at that Lincoln match too. We parked down a sidestreet, and some locals were a bit aggressive, but without getting to fisticuffs. We were 2-0 down after 10 minutes, the players minds were clearly elsewhere, and glad to put it down on the list of grounds I never will probably visit again.

Special shout out for Grimsby too! Anyone who was at our 4-2 victory in 1985, or 5-0 defeat in 1983, will know why!

You can, but your position isn't as strong when you have a couple of years left on your contract as it is when you have a couple of months. There's also less stress on your worklife because you still have that time left on your deal. But in theory, when you sign that contract you're agreeing to four years at a rate of pay that is potentially lower than what you would get if your improvement continues and you sign two two-year contracts.

My missus is school friends with a girl who married a Lincoln Physcopath and I had the dubious pleasure of meeting the husband and his mates. I've never felt so ill at ease and was strangely out of place without a Tattoo on my face or endless stories of violence to tell.

Lincoln itself is nice especially if you are up by the castle with some poncy bars and the like. Just don't walk down the hill otherwise its death by Wetherspoon.

Firstly, I have no idea how credible your point about the fee is, but if you genuinely got him for £400K initially, then I am seriously pissed off we sold him. To get a striker who's got double figures in goals the last two seasons for that little money, even with them being out of contract in the summer, is a joke. We'd have been far better off keeping him and accepting he goes for free in the summer.

If we reach the end of the transfer window and we haven't replaced Barnes with at least a comparable player, I too will be pissed off. I can't get my head around the club just shooting itself in the foot at the moment so I believe that we will get somebody in before the window closes. If we don't I'll have to rethink my opinion that we are no longer a tinpot micky mouse club, regardless of how fantastic our stadium is and what we have achieved over the last three years.

It's obviously not only Ashley's fault we are so wasteful in front of goal but it is something we need to improve or we will never go up.

I expect they are looking for a replacement striker who has that knack.

Yup, just contrast Will Hoskins, who is facing unemployment in the summer at the age of 27, who was signed on a 2 year contract, (which the Albion have extended but on reduced terms) and CMS, who is half way through a lucrative 5 year contract. Both have hardly kicked a ball in anger for a year, but one does has a nervous summer ahead.

Well whoever did is spot on. One thing Oscar keeps pointing out is that we are not clinical enough, and he's right.

Unfortunately, so is every other club, and one that has that knack will not come cheap, unless they're from a lower league. Maybe that's what we'll get.
