some of the scenes seen recently are just ridiculous, women crying hysterically in their hundreds flocking around him like he is some sort of 'God'.
Yes, they are brought up to believe their leader is like a god. And if you upset him, you deserve to die.

let's be honest if it was a smaller & less militarily powerful country then the US would already be moving in.
It's China that stops the US going in. But China don't want Korea to have nukes either.

am willing to be corrected if I am wrong.
You are a gentleman sir, and with more people like you, this world would be a better place.

Erm...

North Korea military budget: $7 bn
US military budget: $698.6 billion

NK fit for service - 10 million
US fit for service - 102 million

America has 100 times the budget, and 10 times the manpower.

It would be the shortest "world war" in history.

As has already been said, North Korea could bring China & possibly Russia into the equation which makes things a little different than you suggest, you really think given the stuff that's already occurring in North Korea, if it was a smaller nation with less of a 'threat' they wouldn't be there intervening in a heartbeat?

How about this then:

North Korea vs. Japan, South Korea and USA.
China wade in to defend NK, USA have to attack China. Russia weigh in on China's side and now the West have to help USA. Obviously the Russia backers in the middle east would get involved

In one corner you have USA,UK,France,Israel,Germany, Canada etc and the other you have China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Syria. Has the potential to get tasty (apart from the fact China would disown North Korea in a heart beat).

IMO China has too much to lose if they decide to have a war with the West - their economy would crash. Don't forget many of their weapons were purchased from Western countries and those systems have back doors in them to allow us to disable them.

Not if a phone call to Beijing gets the right response.

China wouldn't have to even fire a single shot, they could bring the U.S too its knees with its holdings of treasury bonds, or use its large gold reserves and abandon the U.S dollar as a reserve currency.

The whole world would be at the mercy of the Chinese.

Interesting this talk of WW3 because some bloke put a statue in a shady corner.

Having read some of those associated NK stories in the Telegraph you have to admire the creativity that goes into the selection of the mode of execution. The one where the leader so disliked an opponent that he ordered every part of him to be destroyed, even the hair on his head and so made him stand on a spot for a mortar strike was particularly nasty.

Executing someone just for being 'Despicable human scum'? Harsh.

Plenty of people would be looking down the barrels of a firing squad if that was brought in here.

If it came to it, none of the others would lift a finger to help North Korea. What's in it for them?

Why would you assume China would help NK? They've publicly stated they wouldn't. This is USA v NK we're talking about, no one else.

That's a very scary prospect, but the Chinese ownership of US treasury bonds isn't a security risk. The US have about $16 trillion in debt of which, nearly 8% is Chinese owned. They are the largest foreign holder of this debt, but it's a debt built by trade and trade payments. So, yes, a decision by China to sell off all U.S. debt would send the US economy spiraling but it'd also harm China. It would lessen the value of China’s investments and export-driven economy. So it'd be self defeating. It's a bilateral relationship, and I'd say it's a good thing that such strong trade links exist between the two countries. Wayy to much on the line. So I'd say it's bit of a myth to say it's a security risk, yes China *could* damage the US financially, but it'd be doing significant damage to itself in the process.

I somehow doubt that.

Why do you doubt it ? Their radar systems were purchased from a British company and I can guarantee that as part of the export licence the MoD insisted on backdoors. I worked for the company that produced the kit and and software.

If that were truly the case ten you'd now be in breach of the Official Secrets Act

China pulling out of the bond market though would signal risk to other investors, which surely would increase bond yields. As yields rise, wouldn't the availability of investors decrease as it did with Greece. I don't think it'd cause significant harm to China, they'd still have other markets they can export to, especially the rise of India, Kenya (which is doing fairly well and has a good relationship with China) and Latin America.

In terms of the gold standard, many financial market websites are seeing a shift in Chinese monetary policy. But who knows, it's all hypothetical, but I thoroughly enjoy these debates.

America gets to legitimately keep a heavy military presence in region - they don't want NK to change any time soon.
This. We should never underestimate the value that the US military places on so-called "rogue regimes". It justifies their massive budget and their prominence in the political system.

Nobody knows what he actually did , you can't go by the western media's propaganda machine , orchestrated by the US and backed all the time by the UK . What if Edward Snowden was extradited back to the US , I am sure he would be in for one hell of a sentence , possibly death , I would rather get it over with . Just because North Korea have different ways than what we are used to in the West why question it ? We used to hang people don't forget not so long ago , and the US still apply the death penalty .
