Welbeck is clearly average but we're not blessed with alternatives.

It's like being pleased when Ashley Barnes gets himself sent off.

The arse end of Hangleton
Clear foul by Gerrard on the defender before the goal, and knobby Townsend says right decision not to give foul, and they had other opportunities to clear. He's F*#*ing clueless! Pleased for Lambert though.

Rubbish - that was never a foul !

Woy out e.t.c. e.t.c.

Whats the Portugal situation? I'm assuming they have nothing to play for as they're losing 2-1 to Northern Island.

Portugal always stutter in qualification but seem to do well at the tournos. England seem to do the opposite on the whole...

Two great finishes from the usually very average Wellbeck.

Wilshere and Lambert have been excellent.

Typical commentators singing Lamberts praises, but being surprised that he'd spent most of his career in the lower divisions. Football only exists in the Premier League.

Portugal are down to ten men. Have been since the 43rd minute.

EDIT: And now Ireland are down to 10 men and it's 2-2

Exactly. IF FIT.

So how is it good news that Welbeck is ruled out?

I would rather see a combo of Lambert and Walcott or Lambert and Sturridge in that game. Had Rooney been available Sturridge and Rooney Are our best pairing imo

Welbeck through the middle on both occasions he scored from. That is where a striker should be, not poncing about on the left wing. Simple stuff isn't it?

It's easier for a striker in that role to get forward when facing a team 109 places below you in the fifa rankings. It's also easier when you have one of the country's best left backs behind you not needing your support.
