Nothing but praise for the apple store chez pasty. Mrs P went in last week, with no appointment, to get someone to look at her ipad. She had somehow lost all her photo's, music and stuff, and being a complete technophobe didn't have a clue what to do. Chap in the shop patiently took her through getting everything back from the the icloud, then realised the ipad screen was dodgy, and replaced it there and then, no questions asked, with a new ipad. No receipt or anything, and in fact it wasn't even bought from the apple store, it was bought from currys.

Doesn't matter where it was bought. Apple have full responsibility. But good outcome.

What happened to all her stuff? Did they manage to transfer to her new machine?

Apple's going pear-shaped. Your friend may well be better off going for an Android phone: better build quality, excellent value and superior customer service.

Seriously, they aren't enough threads with people argueing at the moment?

has this company disappeared I up its own arse in terms of customer service?

Funny. I was only marvelling at their second to none customer service last week. I took my ipod classic into the store as the battery had died, 10 minutes later I walked out with a good-as-new totally refurbished item for 55 euros. Is there any other company which undertakes repairs so quickly, so effortlessly and so cheaply? The guy even had time to tell me how much he loved Brighton when he saw my Hove address.

Same here. See my post above. I bought my product elsewhere as well. Truly excellent service.

You cannot help that some where along the line, this story isn't quite the truth of what actually happened.

I've been in the Apple Store in Brighton many times. I even bought a 2nd hand laptop off a guy and walked straight into the store and they checked it all out for me there and then, said I had got a good deal.

No way has someone walked in and been told they need an appointment to buy something, absolutely no way!

Yep, got everything she'd lost back onto her new one from the iCloud

When the iphone 5 first came out they did have an appointment list to buy iphone 5 you had to register for an appointment and then they would issue you a time to go and purchase it, it was so that they could set them up and not disappoint you if they were out of stock as your unit was reserved before arriving at the store. I would have assumed that seeing as a new one is out next month this wouldn't be necessary now.

Same here. OP, is there more to your story than you originally told?

I went into vodaphone to downgrade my phone and they could not wait to get rid of me. They miraculously managed to complete the process in under three minutes at the counter. A month previous to that my daughter up graded and it took over an hour with her having to sit with an assistant to sort. Funny that!

If you want to buy a house it takes an age as they are complicated, to buy a can of coke takes a second...... extreme comparison but makes the point? Perhaps am kind of playing devil's advocate

This is how I bought my 5. Worked very well, also the headphone socket got damaged, just booked a genius slot same day and they swapped it for a new one in minutes. Always had a good service up to now.

Only been to the Apple Store in Leicester. Always seemed friendly and approachable and never askeed for an appointment - I guess Brighton is BUSY !

I have never bought anything there - the wife has attended their lessons in the use of ipads and phones and always been pleased afterwards . We shall see, if we can organize a move back home .....

Think your friend should complain. No where does it say in apple stores policy that you should make an appointment to purchase something.

You only make appointments when you have an issue with an apple product

On the subject of Apple Stores, is it a prerequisite that staff have to have bolts through their faces, ear stretching apparatus, jumbo tattoos and dreadlocked hair?

For such a big corporate identity it seems strange that the shops are staffed by folk who wouldn't look out of place working in death metal clubs and tattoo studios
