Anyone ever seen an alien or a UFO

Yes. When I was little we were walking one Sunday through the woods north of Angmering and we saw strange bright lights hovering for a few seconds just above Clapham Woods on the other side of the A27. One of the lights elongated into a fat cigar shape then like a firework kind of exploded but not really very widely. The other lights just disappeared. All our family saw it and described the same thing.

No idea what it was, could have been Chinese lanterns but it added further to the scariness of Clapham Woods. Never been in and never will.

One thing I'm sure of though. If aliens do travel across galaxies to visit us then contrary to what Independence Day would have us believe, they'll probably have a firewall and up to date anti virus software.

Why would a spaceship needs lights ?

No human has ever seen an alien or an alien spacecraft as they simply just don't exist.

Well, they probably do, but the universe is so huge that any life form which tries to reach us would DIE before they get here.

Also, why would an alien want to come to our pathetic little planet? Humans are STUPID, we are destroying our planet, we KNOW that we are destroying our planet, we KNOW how to STOP destroying our planet, yet we're just like meh, who cares, so we continue to destroy our planet. Everyone is guilty of this including me.

Forgetting (for now) the logistical challenges, they could be here to help?

I normally have this argument and use logistical challenges as my point, but they still could have harnessed some technology or loophole that we haven't discovered or even considered yet. I just think it's so overwhelmingly unlikely that they have visited us. And why the hell would they leave crop circles and the like? I also think that no human has ever seen an alien artifact or space craft, but it is possible.

I am also 99.99% certain that we are not alone in the universe.

I'm 100% certain that we are not alone in our galaxy, let alone our universe, the drake equation (which is flawed but accurate to some sort of degree) suggests that their are 12,000 earths like ours in our galaxy, we've already discovered some planets that may contain life less than 30 light years away, still a MASSIVE distance ( Hundreds of TRILLIONS of miles) but it's a start. Unfortunately this generation will not come into contact with other life forms, it will be a good few hundred years, at least, maybe never.

Anybody who claims to have seen an alien is clearly insane and deserves to be shot. :)

You are probably right there

That's assuming that it's impossible to travel as fast as the speed of light (or faster) thus reducing any two distances in the universe to zero - also discounting the possibility of wormholes and any other unknown exploitations of the physical universe.

Perhaps they would study us, or treat us as entertainment like a zoo. Perhaps we would have plants and animals and resources that are useful to them... or perhaps we just taste good. There are lots of reasons why aliens, if they existed, may want to visit us.

As for destroying our planet - It's not that nobody cares, but it's very difficult to stop. The whole world would have to grind to a halt for us to change our ways - We have chosen an economic system which encourages excessive and needless consumption, but it won't last forever :)

I suppose, but not going on your yearly holiday to the Maldives, walking to your local tesco rather than driving and not have the lights on in broad daylight would help, yet most humans don't wanna know.

Technology will stop global warming with things such as clean and renewable energy, but at the moment we can still do some serious harm to this amazing, magical thing called planet Earth before a new age of amazing technology begins to step up.

Hate to break it to you, but the Drake equation is hypothetical nonsense based on nothing other than the assumption that planets similar to ours will inevitably lead to life. Nobody knows exactly what life is, and certainly not what its origin is. Without understanding these important principles it is impossible to estimate how many planets there are with life.

We have only ever observed one, this one. & for all we know, we could be the only planet in the entire universe with life.

A bit like worm holes then. ;)

We have found some planets that may contain life already, the equation does have some truth to it; which is that in our own little neighborhood there could be many civilizations like ours.

You also said that we may be able to travel at the speed of light, or close to it eventually.

This can't be possible, a space craft traveling at even half the speed of light would completely shatter even if it hits a spec of dust, let alone one of the millions of rocks that whiz around the galaxy. Do you know how fast the speed of light is btw? It's 1 MILLION KM, every 3 seconds or so, just imagine that in your head, that's super fast and we're MILLIONS of years off reaching that if it's possible, which it probably isn't, I mean imagine the sheer amount of energy that would take, just to get it going at that speed for a second, let alone years and years as it travels into the unknown universe.

Voyager has been traveling for 30 years or so and hasn't even done a light DAY yet, it's just not possible, we'll never even get close to that sort of speed, ever.

Wormholes are the complete unknown really, we don't really know if they exist or if it's possible for them to exist do we?

Of course it's hypothetical, science mostly is hypothesis backed by observation and experimentation.

Only religion claim to know the origin of life the universe and everything...

Indeed... and comparing his "100% certainty that life exists elsewhere" to "100% certain that there is a God" would be a reasonable comparison.

To be fair, he said that he was 100% certain - which he is completely entitled to be, but it doesn't make reality any more true or false.

Yep. Scientists will always say things like 'we believe that there could be....' or 'this leads us to conclude that....'.

Did Karl Popper not say any scientific theory or proposition that claim to be unfalsifiable is psuedo-science? The premise being a theory can be backed by a thousand experiments proving it, but only requires 1 to refute it.
