Must admit, if I was the Palace board I would take this chance to do something about Selhurst. It is awful, and now they have the money. Can they do that AND give themselves a decent chance of staying up? Probably not, but the ground has fallen so far behind the rest that it needs doing, and they are financially secure to do it now. In the long run better than a couple of marquee signings this summer.

So after increasing our capacity to 30,000 odd we're filling it nicely. Worth expanding the north and south a bit or is it pointless seeing as we're staying in the Championship for at least another season?

There was a recent Albion Roar (search on iTunes) with Martin Perry where he went into some detail on this. I think the question he was responding to was along the lines of 'is the Stadium finished?'. From memory, they have identified several areas for more seating but the transport infrastructure has reached capacity so it's a no for the time being.

We are just fine right now. Let's keep filling the amex before worrying about getting more people in.

I disagree. The club are correct to review the current layout to seek if they can expand the seating. Just 250 more seats @ £400 a pop means another £100K extra gate receipts and £50K extra in merchandise, food and drink.

What about safe standing in the North stand? Surely that would increase the capacity and potentially improve the atmosphere generated too?

No it wouldn't (increase capacity, that is)

Its illegal, no point even looking into yet. I'm sure it would only increase very small amounts or not even at all due to the point being that everyone has loads of room in safe standing.

That would be the sensible option. So they won't do it.

A nice bit of South London
Our ground can take additional tiers behind each goal structurally with a bit of engineering I am told by the architects that designed it - KSS whom I know - but would require a new planning application to assess the impact of additional fans on local infrastructure ( roads, railway, parking etc). Possible but not for a while probably

Let's quash this now. There is absolutely no more scope for increasing the seating at the stadium. The arches above the West and East Stand roofs essentially are holding the entire structure in place, and if you look carefully, the rods for holding them in place go under the roof in each stand. They meet at the points in the North and South stands, effectively ruling out the ability to increase the seating.

If they could they would have just done it this time round.

I suspect there is a technical possibility of adding a tier to the East. Technically I reiterate.

Would involve raising the roof and supporting the structure whilst doing it.

There was vote recently and most chairmen voted for it - if its illegal now I don't think it will be for much longer...

Standing will increase the capacity a fair amount from seating.

When told about the footing/ foundations I was given a figure of 45-50000 possibly but I wouldnt think that would be viable or considered at the moment.

the problem with that is the design of the structure placed above is inherently inefficient space wise, so i doubt it could ever get that near that capacity. to get it built we had to push aesthetics (and make it look like the 25k limit was the limit...).

In theory it would increase capacity but it wouldn't as our transport plan is for 30,750 IIRC and no more. That would need to be increased and proven it'd work.
