Young footballers have several things in excess: money, testosterone, and time. Many of them have been "apart" from us "normals" from a young age. They've needed an enlarged ego to get where they've got. They get a regular fix of crowd adulation. Their role models are often exceptionally rich and often exceptionally arrogant.

None of which excuses any unpleasant or criminal behaviour that results. But these lads don't half get a weird introduction to adult life.

This has been going on for years but seems to be more widespread and its about time that Clubs and the PFA got a grip. OK you will always get the odd wild child who will slip through the net but somehow a better culture needs to be created. I think Clubs have tended to turn a blind eye as long as players do the business on the pitch knowing that because of player / agent power if they clamp down hard on them they risk them walking to another Club.

Yes footie players often get signed up at an early age and do their growing up within an artificial and privileged football bubble that does not seem to equip them for living life in public and setting good examples as 'professionals'.

Yes Clubs and the PFA should do more but ultimately its about players (and their agents who have a strong influence on their clients) conducting themselves properly.

Employers in the real world do not tolerate serious breaches of conduct. There are few footballers who could do with a dose of reality.

'Can't argue with any of that, Beepsta. The off-field antics of a number of our professionals has evidently been anything but in recent times - & it's clear to me that some characters need to face up to their responsibilities. Goodness knows if the impending change of management will provide them with the necessary discipline, but we live in hope.

Past players that spent their time in smoky snooker halls, bookies and drinking clubs were up to no good too, the dynamics of social media etc may have changed but the conduct of players probably hasnt.

Oh thats alright then. Lets continue to indulge footballers to carry on living their lives according to their rules and be a shocking example to others, it will certainly keep lawyers and the courts busy, not forgetting the innocent victims who are collateral damage along the way.

It's a recipe for disaster isn't it? Often out of education early, way more money than they need, hero worship, women throwing themselves at them due to their status, lots of time on their hands.

Fair comment, although I would suggest that the influence of the social media explosion is all the more reason for said young lads to keep their nuts down.

As with all young guys, there are the good, the bad and the simply silly. It is unfair to brand all young footballers in any particular group. The difference between them and most of us when we were young, is that they have more money than most can even dream of, and as has been said, too much time on their hands. They are also under a media (official and amature) spotlight all the time.

Without wishing to comment upon the current case, as I simply do not know enough about it, I know that I would not have wanted the things my mates and I got up to under so much scrutiny.

I cannot help but think that if it had not been for the fact they were footballers, the whole matter would have been treated very differently.

Lua Lua really sounds like an utter c unit doesn't he, complete attention seeking drama queen.

More than ever I hope we employ a humble man that can control his players and if they cause any unecessary sh*t off the pitch then they're out. What a farce.

I know it's an aspect of getting players on higher wages and therefore higher egos, and also an aspect of not being poor little brighton anymore, but under Poyet our club name has been dragged through the mud constantly and much of the good will we recieved during our years of struggle has long since dissipated.

Wow, I am guessing you or someone close have had a bad experience with a pro player.

I dont think footballers are necessarily conflicted with those characteristics, I accept some might be but slightly a generalisation.

In Scotland, they have a verdict of 'Not proven'. I believe here we only have G or NG
