Liz is a protected species, leave her alone. If she's asked an opinion then she has the right to give it. I haven't seen her for years, but I know she never claimed to speak for everyone.

While I do not condone a witch hunt against LC and her colleagues in the Supporters Club, I do often wonder why when the press need a quote or sound bite its always them that provide it. Surely there are plenty of other supporter groups around that can express an opinion.

As far as I am concerned, LC does not speak for me on this issue.

While homophobia is a definite problem in today's society akin to racism, 'Does your boyfriend' and 'We can see you' chanted by a few hundred away supporters during a game does not offend or bother me. Who is to say whether the Albion retort 'You're to ugly to be gay' is offensive to heterosexuals in the crowd?!

On the other hand, direct verbal abuse, whether homophobic or otherwise, inside or outside a football ground or on the street, by one or two individuals or small groups does bother me, particularly where small children, women or elderly Brighton fans are present - especially if there is a risk of an escalation of violence. It is this abuse that needs to be cracked down upon and frankly, I can only think of one or two such incidents in all of my 20 plus years of following the Albion where I have felt particularly offended.

The statistics presented do not surprise me, it's all about opinion. If you are easily offended, the perceived level of abuse is going to be high. If you're thick skinned, it'll be low. So who is right?

It would be nice if someone from the Official Supporters Club could come on here and clarify the situation. Hardly too much to ask is it? Bozza - maybe you could have a word?

Liz is a great lady and a real fan of the club. She even shacked up with John Lees. I've been a member of the club for a good few years and it offers great value for money, you get a monthly newsletter, almanac, club shop discount and discount travel for just a couple of quid a year. Anyone who didn't get the inside accounts of the fight for Falmer and the court cases really missed a lot.
Liz has been unfairly treated on this board for donkeys years and she has been misquoted this week on here yet again. The club is often described as just a lot of old people and to be fair most of us are but there is nothing to stop you younger ones joining and making a difference but actually committing to something is a lot harder than spouting untruths and making snide digs on a forum.

That is a biggest crock of shit I've ever read on here! If Liz had her way it would be her and her cronies at games. She must hate it now we have 25k every week and the club is being run like a proper club and not some village outfit.

The problem it seems after all the troubles (seem to recall her telling everyone at Hull to support the team and not chant anti board songs.....even 15 odd years ago she thought she was the voice piece for Albion fans!) a certain minority of Brighton fans feel they've got to carry on the fight. The club is arguably in the best state its ever been so there is nothing to campaign about so they are looking for problems that don't really exist and making mountains out of mole hills.

Best thing Liz could do is just organise her coaches and keep her mouth shut. Don't forget it wasn't that long ok when she was quoted in the press as saying something along the lines of Brighton has a large gay population therefore the football team fans must have a large gay following. That shows how out of touch she is with the goings on at the Albion.

The Supporters' Club do a great job in many aspects connected to the club, including providing a way for many to get to games who may not otherwise be able to do so. They also further the cause of Brighton & Hove Albion, and the fans, where there may be a need to do so. The Goldstone Memorial in Hove Park - the SC led the way in this. Memorial Garden at the Amex - the same. I'm sure there are numerous other examples where the SC have championed a cause and/or provided the funding required to make something happen.

Liz herself is a wonderful, wonderful person. I would imagine most who fling some virtual mud in her direction do not actually know her at all. She has tremendous energy and a great sense of humour. The number of hours she has put in to help both the Albion and those connected to the Albion must run into the many tens of thousands. She'll never ask for thanks, I'm sure, but neither does she deserve nameless no-marks having a dig.

A journalist looking for a quote on an issue to do with Albion fans is likely to contact BHASC, it's the logical thing to do.

I don't agree with a lot of Liz's views, but she is as entitled to voice them as much as anyone else.

Liz got banned from the Goldstone by Bellotti. As far as I'm concerned, that puts her in credit.

That's exactly what I was alluding to when I suggested respect should be given to Liz, and then Mr Beachy decided it wasn't because others did the same.

Err, isn't NSC membership far higher than that of BHASC? Discounts over here please Mr Barber!

I've met her a few times, quite a few years ago. Nice well meaning lady, if a bit of the happy clappy type. Did a lot of sterling work over the years, but should not be immune to criticism when deserved, like now.

I have been a club member for many years. No longer get discount at club shop, but as a supporter who had to move away their monthly almanac provided me with news and match reports. Now that information is much more accessible via the internet and TV that important lifeline is not so vital, and I know that there are discussions as to how the club should evolve to meet current needs.
They also enabled my 1st game at the Amex via their club season ticket which many members have been grateful for in the past, particularly when tickets were much harder to come by.

More like she is out of touch of what it's like to be gay.

I know a few gay men and the last place they would go is a football ground. Maybe I'm stereotyping but sport isn't usually an area of interest for a gay man.

NSC is an Internet forum populated by bell ends, trolls, planks and wronguns.

The supporters club is populated by real people on a coach who saved the club. Because of the unique situation we were in with Belloti et al Liz Costa ( among others ) has a massive amount of respect and cudos with us.

Liz may speak for the majority of the official supporters membership...if so she has every right to act as their mouthpiece. I just don't want or need anyone speaking on my behalf. It's nothing against her or her struggles on our behalf.
