Youd have to go a long way to see a worsed ebut. At fault on at least 2 of the 3 goals, arguing with Kooshak, Bridders and El Abd, distribution was like a Stoke centre back, and missed a one yard open goal sitter with an airshot. Other than that he had a goo 'un.

Not quite match fit , in defensive play he is a good header of the ball. Stabbed the ball 3 yards wide of the goal from about three yards out in the second half after CMS had fluffed it.

Upson looked a bit rusty and clearly needs to get an understanding with El Abd asap, but then none of our defenders were on their 'A' game today. They allowed big gaps between them for at least one of the goals and were lucky not to get more exposed by pace. It is good to have someone of his experience but even with Greer and Dunk available our CBs are all vulnerable to pace. Better teams than Sheff Weds will test them. Upson will be a good loanee but the longer term solution has to be a VVD type of player.
Early on it was great to see Upson alongside Bridge. Two former England defenders with 50-odd caps between them in Albion shirts stroking the ball about. Ahem.

Upson is a real class act, but he needs the fans to recognise his undoubted ability. When Poyet makes him captain, you will see a completely different player and much ore motivated when you sing his name!!

Mathew Upson and Darren Purse [Port Vale] wise head of Purse and excellent speed from Upson would be a great pairing. However, if you could get Roger Johnson away from Wolves you would have a defence made in heaven.
