Happy Christmas to all of you!I need an expert please to help solve the usual Xmas PC game issues!Have bought Command & Conquer 4 for my son. Is there any way of getting it to play offline? It says it needs a persistant internet connection, which we do not have on his computer. Have looked online and it says that I can download a workaround, but every time I try that it sends me to torrent sites, which just appear to download everything other than what I want.Any ideas or must we just give up and tell Santa to get something else?

Junior has Call Of Duty Black Opps 2, it would appear Mini is learning some new words from it

Bear in mind it's a torrent and so you'll need a special program to download it, you can just download and run the file that was linked earlier.

Further reading : No Internet? Then You Can’t Play Command & Conquer 4 (Also, How Are You Reading This?) | Maximum PC

Patches that are available are all unofficial I think, maybe invest in an xbox, they're pretty cheap these days ;)

Thanks - am trying to sort this out now. Seems bloody stupid that you buy a game but cannot play it unless you have the internet on all the time - it is our property now and some of us still have to use capped ADSL as uncapped is so bloody expensive, or unavailable. And I really don't like using torrents.

Know nothing about xbox's - we have a PS/2, but we gave my son an old computer so that he could play some stuff on his own - he is autistic and gets rather upset if our other son bugs him all the time. He loves Command and Conquer 3 - he doesn't fight anyone very often, just builds the biggest bases he can! Whatever floats his boat, really. If I cannot get it to work, I will find him something else. Thanks again.

Ahh sounds like a sweet kid. I'd suggest Civilization 4. Might be a bit complicated at first (never played C&c so can't compare) but it's offline and only a tenner these days (try Cex in town, some cheap games there). Will keep him busy for years (maybe too addictive).

Look into getting him Tropico 3 (or 4). Both brilliant games, or even get him Cities XL (although that is quite hard even for an adult).

Roller Coaster Tycoon 2! Got back into playing it and sounds like the sort of game he could have some fun playing. Plus it's an old game so will work well even on an old PC.

Thanks chaps! Will look into those - the Sims stuff could be a good idea. I used to have Hospital Tycoon, but am not sure what I have done with it!

I found the C&C4 crack on someone's blog without using a Torrent thingy, loaded it up this morning and it appears to be working, so he is very happy! I have Civilization II, which I have been addicted to for years - I will try that with him as long as he plays on the easiest setting as it can get a bit tricky.

Because of his autism, he has always had a problem with getting things wrong, it took us ages to get him to play PS/2 games because if he "died", he saw it as a failure and would not try again! But once his little brother started playing them, it seems to have spurred him on and taught him perseverance! They both love Lego Star Wars on the PS/2, for instance. With C&C, he found that you could ally with everyone else and they would not attack you!

Anyway, thanks again and enjoy the rest of the festive season!

Mini is 15 but it is his brother (Junior) who we gave the game to.

Anyway Mini not well, asleep on the sofa.

to the OP i can also rcommend stronghold or the age of empires series for good war type building sims, they're medieval as opposed to futuristic like c&c

I don't think any 15 year old in this country has ANY words left to learn. I certainly didn't.
