Ok so the bloke is a toffee nosed arrogant twat and said something, we have all said something after a hard days work and regretted it in the morning.

Haven't the opposition and the media got better things to report on like the economy, Kate's breasts or Tulisa, better still more reports on the league tables.

It will all blow over and be tomorrows chip paper with no action taken by any party as it is just a storm in a tea cup.

The Police report paints a different picture and if it is to be believed, and no doubt those members of the public will make themselves known to the press at some stage, then Mr Mitchell is now shown to be a liar and a bully. If the Police have been told not to allow cycles through the main gate then why did Mitchell not comply. It may well be that in the past he has riden his bike through the main gates but we don't know whether the Pc's actions were due to be new in the post and following security procedure by the book, if they were being belligerent or even if the security services had identified a recent heightened state of alert and were battening down the hatches.

Mitchell claimed yesterday he never used the word "pleb". Having read the Police Log which gives a rather different version of events, Mitchells position in my opinion, is untenable. Another example of the arrogant Public School toffs at the heart of Camerons Government. His pathetic statement yesterday was hardly an apology as he claimed.

Cameron should sack the arrogant twat if he doesn't resign. Doubtful he will though. The evidence against Murdochs Poodle & Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, was damming, but he clung onto power thanks to 'Dave' standing by him.

He swore? I thought it was just a grumpy slur at the policeman. Seems we're wasting way too much time and public money on this already. He said sorry, move on. At the end of the day we all get stressed, we all get annoyed and say things at the wrong time. Who knows what the mental state of this guy was at the time. Sounds like the policeman delayed opening the gates for some reason, and he got annoyed.

Non-story. Not news.

There is a story now but its not 'World peace threatened as man swears at Policeman' but rather the fact that the Police are attempting to ramp up this non event to cover up criticism of their incompetance and criminal behaviour at Hillsborough, their ignoring of child abuse in Yorskshire that surfaced yesterday, the unwarranted attack (and his subsequent death) of an innocent man at last years riots/demos - need I go on? The fact that the Police leaked their 'report' (and how is this assumed to be truthful? We now know for a fact that they doctored the hillsborough reports) to the Sun asks far more questions about their integrity than it does about any arsey little politician.

indeed and one less copper off the wage bill in these straightened times

One more to go with the 9000 odd which have already lost their jobs due to budget cuts.

This is about the class nature of the insults, the failure by Andrew Mitchell to tell us exactly what he did say and what that says about the current government. If the boot was on the other foot the police officer would be sacked. Andrew Mitchell should tell us exactly what he did say. If he has lied he should resign and if he insists the police are telling lies, he should call for an investigation.

How many of the 161 changes to written testimony vis a vis Hillsborough have resulted in police sackings? Ridiculous fuss over a disagreement

Just far enough away from LDC
There a number of reasons why the main gate won't be opened including (and not limited to) security concerns, the availability of officers to man it and still offer protection, expected other traffic etc.

It's not rocket science.

And to be clear, he hasn't actually apologised for much so far. He is basically calling experienced police officers liars. And this is why an investigation is important because if he is right then the met have a huge problem.

I know you shouldn't really quote yourself but the point I made (above) back in Sept seems to have been valid. If only cmd had balls then he would have solved this very quickly and it wouldnt still be rumbling now.

As suspected, another Police cover up and manipulation of facts to serve their own ends. Why should anybody give the Police any respect any more?

If this email backing the report of the 2 policemen on the gate turns out to be from an off-duty policeman who wasn't there, then you have to ask why? Why should this be made up, unless there is some form of conspiracy going on. Logically, it makes no sense.
There's something very wrong here. Whether Mitchell is guilty or not I don't know, but there's a lot more to be explained IMO.

Either way it doesn't reflect well on politicians or the police. The media like to demonise both so this will just be more ammunition. The politicians dont mind the Police getting flack because it deflects a bit of attention from their own shortcomings and suits the agenda for cutting back on public services as there is much more pain to come for them.

Heard a financial guru sounding warnings that the UK is heading for a Euro style meltdown as the so called 'austerity measures' by the coalition which are already so unpopular with the public are nowhere near radical enough to protect us if/when the UK's credit rating gets downgraded which means the cost of borrowing will escalate and a triple dip recession kicks in. He reckoned that we must avoid losing the credit rating at all costs and the public dont really understand the implications. Either way it won't be a happy political landscape and the Govt will need the police to deal with upsurges in crime and public disorder. So it would be nice if they were both on the same page but seems the opposite.

The arrogance of a scheming policeman to make the story worse, allegedly.

In a job where honesty is everything, if proved, I hope they through the book at him/her.

The Police Officer concerned can't be that gifted in his job if he thought he could get away with claiming he was a member of public who witnessed the 'plebgate' incident and making a false complaint. Yet the whole place is covered by CCTV which is fairly obvious so would probably come out in the wash at some point. What a numpty. His stunt looks like an own goal probably going to cost him his job and giving the Govt yet another reason to scrutinise the police. Well done.

I wonder if there is yet more to this i.e. such as the possibility of Police then leaking the fabrication to the media? Worse still if any payments were made (allegedly of course)? All fits nicely into Leveson etc if anything of that sort that emerges. The Govt would love that.

Still doesn't excuse Mitchell for swearing at Police (which I think he has already admitted) just because he wanted a gate opened for him.

It's ironic that the Police union who I might add were extremely vocal during the original allegations, wont pass comment as "there is an investigation", I thought there was an investigation going on last time when they were suggesting that the MP was calling their members "Liars".....

Copper in fabricated evidence shocker .............................only difference is this time it's someone who has the means to defend himself rather than some wretched toerag from a sink estate being used to pad out crime detection stats.

shame the usual suspects on here mindlessly lined up behind the wooden tops. It makes funny reading this thread now.

If it is all over that is! The plot could still thicken.....but remember kids coppers dont always tell the truth and not all tories are evil.
