Songs that you think can only have been written with the help of substances

MacArthur's Park by Richard Harris written by Jimmy Webb

Spring was never waiting for us, girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
Between the parted pages
And were pressed in love's hot, fevered ironLike a striped pair of pants
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again, oh no
I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers, by the trees
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake itAnd
I'll never have that recipe again, oh no
There will be another song for me
For I will sing it
There will be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life, you'll still be the one
I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desireAnd my passion flow like rivers through the sky
And after all the loves of my lifeOh, after all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you and wondering why
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe againOh no, oh no, no, no, oh no

Not so much drugs. But snow patrol wrote chasing cars while consuming a few bottles of wine each

Apparently they woke up the next morning not remembering anything and some lyrics for Chasing cars were written down

Wasn't "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" supposed to be inspired by LSD?
No, that was a myth, it was inspired by a drawing by Lennon's son (although it appears someone called McCartney disagrees).

A Horse With No Name by America. Some shocking lyrics (sorry I can't post them), and it was banned in some states of the USA because of it's references to heroin. Apparently the song writer/s were ripped off their proverbials at the time. I think it still did good business though.

And, I expect, almost everthing by the Prodigy.

It has been intimated that Firestarter originated from the original lyrics:

I'm a hairy spider, a big fat hairy spider. Hmmmm?

Or did I just dream that?

Not sure that's accurate. McCartney has often stated he agrees with Lennon's version.

Seeing your signature reminds me - Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys. The lyrics are not that weird but he certainly was at the time he wrote it.

Mister Spaceman

Woke up this morning with light in my eyes
And then realized it was still dark outside
It was a light coming down from the sky
I don't know who or why

Must be those strangers that come every night
Those saucer shaped lights put people uptight
Leave blue-green footprints that glow in the dark
I hope they get home all right

Bike
(Barrett) 3:22

I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like.
It's got a basket, a bell that rings
And things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.

I've got a cloak it's a bit of a joke.
There's a tear up the front. It's red and black.
I've had it for months.
If you think it could look good, then I guess it should.

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.

I know a mouse, and he hasn't got a house.
I don't know why I call him Gerald.
He's getting rather old, but he's a good mouse.

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.

I've got a clan of gingerbread men.
Here a man, there a man, lots of gingerbread men.
Take a couple if you wish. They're on the dish.

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.

I know a room full of musical tunes.
Some rhyme, some ching, most of them are clockwork.
Let's go into the other room and make them work.

Indeed! And I'm off to see Brian Wilson and the rest of the surviving Beach Boys zimmer frame surfin' at Wembley Arena this Friday night!

Everything by the Beetles, the Stones, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Jefferson Airplane; all dance music...

It'd be easier to name songs not inspired by drugs!
