Stop and think. As we were signing quality player after quality player were you thinking "no Gus. I don't want Bruno, Lopez, Bridge, Dobbie because we should show some loyalty to the players that got us out of League One"?

I doubt it. So it cuts both ways. If a player leaves for more money or because he thinks he'll play more or for whatever reason, it does not make him a Judas. In the same way that you are not a "Judas" for instantly forgetting last years favourites when a new and better one comes along.

Well that makes no sense at all.

For me, when a player leaves the Club - best of British to him. Goodnight and good luck. We look forward to seeing you again.

Should they string the club along, then sign for the rivals. I will feel free to call them what I choose.

If they then come back to the club - then another decision is needed.

Spot on DKM. If Murray re-signs for us then the "Judas 17" shirt my son wears will go in the drawer and I'll get him another one. Until then Murray is a fecking Judas.

That's fairly balanced and reasonable

My view on this. We lowly fans don't know anything about what goes on behind the scenes for the most part. We pick up snippets which may or may not be accurate and the same as what's published in the media, even the cubs own press releases are often suspect.

So we're making judgements with very little information - not healthy methinks

I work on the basis that if the club think it's OK to have someone back then whatever occurred at the point of departure hadn't concerned them to any great degree so why should it concern me?

I'd much rather criticise players for their on pitch performance and what I can see and what I know to be fact

So the abuse Noone was getting from some people was justified? I'm just saying that some fans are quick to abuse players that leave but conveniently forget about loyalty etc when we sign a new player and effectively dump an existing one. Perhaps asking for a little rationality on NSC was an ask.

Clearly I wasn't referring to cases when players actually have taken the piss.

Ah, well no. That doesn't justify calling Noone any names. He said good things about us when he left, he hasn't upped and left us for Palace and (hopefully) he won't start gesturing to the Albion fans if he scores against us. My comments were for Hammond and Murray.

I am not sure how you draw that conclusion.

Players come and players go, when a club is on the rise not all players can make the jump. That is football (and life).

Exactly. And players leave to better their careers or prospects. That doesn't make them a traitor to the cause. I think we might actually be agreeing. Almost.

It must be remembered 99% of footballers are not "fans" of their clubs - the club is merely an employer. The only loyalty they have is to fulfil their contract.
That's the sad truth really, which makes the likes of Craig Noone a breath of fresh air. He handled the move very well.

I agree, and this is why a footballer also shouldnt be given a testimonial. The player enters a contract. The club and player performs that contract. That should be the end of it.

Footballers are not fans..... they are working in a career and have to do whats best for their careers and their families... not for the club. Very few have any loyalty. I worked for one company for six years and even though I no longer work for them I do freelance and am totally loyal to them because they have continued to help me. But I am a VERY VERY small minority. The judas issue really doesnt come into re: Murray. Some people forget that he refused to celebrate when he scored against us. As for Hammond..... the two fingers could definately be construed as betrayal especially as he was home-grown but really do we count one second of petulance from a footballer to wipe out everything that has gone before? Doesnt that make us just as petulant.

If tomorrow Nooney had an interveiew where he said that the Albion was crap, they never helped him, Gus was rubbish and the fans were the worst... THAT would be worth labelling judas-like behaviour but I cant think of any examples of that, can you?

Murray said nice things about us when he left and didn't gesture when he scored against us after he left.

Gus didn't want him particularly. Given he has only scored six times in over a year perhaps Gus did us a favour?

and I doubt Noone asked for that move, he was told he was moving, OK he can't be forced but just to make the point that it works both ways. Hoskins said No to a move too!

That's nice. I called him a Judas C*nt because he left us for Palace. Any other club and I wouldn't have given two hoots.

He left for the club that made him the best offer, just as you and I do in our careers.

We are loyal to the shirt, ultimately we could not give a toss about the players.

good post mate, very considered
I mean lets face it footballers are journeymen making what they can where they can and the two in question may be mardy or petulant but we should all be very happy when have helped us get where we are or score the winning goal

i have a problem with murray going to palace, but at the same time had a lot of respect when he refused to celebrate after scoring against us, but with hammond his behaviour was disgusting when he played against us, total lack of respect.
