This guy would be a disaster and we'll en up scrabbling around in the loan market in a months time after he's done nothing but fall on his arse every match.

WHU fans didn't rate Bobby Z.

Erm ... No? But the logic that everyone they don't rate is good is somewhat flawed, if that's what you're suggesting. It's just an element of the argument, there's not much I can find, if anything, that makes me feel warm and fuzzy about him.

As I said I've a much higher expectation and after watching us "waste a space" last season by making room for BDB and Vokes I'm praying we don't do it again.

I'm a huge CMS fan but he's a totally different animal to this guy (can't spell!). He's not a worker, has no record to speak of, is past it and washed up and hasn't scored goals wherever he's been.

Right now our key need is for someone to score goals, pure and simple and I've got a much higher expectation than this fella. He's not a player of ours so I'm not about to support him in the same way I don't support, Owen, McCormack, Beckford or even dare I say Greg Bobkin

Nothing wrong with having an opinion, doesn't make me any less a supporter if I don't agree 100% with everything Gus might be thinking of or doing

Fair enough. I do think, though, that group opinion can be formed quite quickly. My worry is that if he does sign, loads of people will get on his back straight away because the received wisdom was that he's rubbish.

Bobkin is a different case entirely, though. Any fan of the beautiful game should be a fan of Bobkin.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not spoiling for an argument, and I totally agree that we wasted time with BDB and Vokes. I did think simply stating WHU fans didn't rate him is a bit of an invalid point!
I think Gus is being a little more cautious with this signing seeing as the last time he spent big money on a striker, he bought one can't shoot!!!

No wasn't thinking you wanted a punch up and I agree that fans thinking he's chit isn't evidence alone. Indeed you haven't got to look far as many here think CMS is crap but clearly he's not

Anyway won't labour it, like the bird you picked up when pissed on a Saturday night ...... can and must do better

Daily Mirror online is remarkably unreliable... for what it's worth, I'd rather have Vokes, but he's gone somewhere else...

I'd rather have no-one than overspend on the wrong player, just to get SOMEONE in.

We need someone for sure. I don't know the player that well, but his stats are terrible and other fans have never warmed to him. Sounds a bit too much like Billy Payntor to me. But ultimately I trust Gus.

My only concern is that Gus has yet to buy a striker that has scored goals. I think CMS could come go good though, but ultimately the only striker who has scored regularly for Gus was Murray who he inherited. He needs to prove that he can find a good striker, CMS could still be that with the right player alongside him.

Mike Small had no record when he joind John Byrne at Brighton but the combination worked.

As would I. I'd honestly rather wait until Jan than panic buy and eat into our budget. Without doubt, the club have been really trying all Summer to get the 'right' player in and have so far been unable to land several targets. That's football / business. The way some people are talking you'd have thought the club were openly sitting on their arses doing nothing...

This. It's somewhere we need to strengthen but I there's no point rushing it now.
CMS sounded good on Saturday, Vicente's gonna play up front and Barnes has looked pre-season and Hoskins will be back soon. Lots of people have been singing Toby's praises so this could be his big opportunity and we've three good wingers. All of them have to go into three (or very unlikely four).

For goodness sake! How many times must it be said. Gus is going to change the way the player plays so all opinions on the player are irrelevant. If Gus has identified the player on his list then he's seen something he likes or can work with.

Bearing in mind that strikers sign for a premium, we may have to resign ourselves to not getting a great deal but getting the man we want...

Not ideal but there are several clubs that have spent big money on poor strikers (that dude at Hull as an e.g), we're very reliant on a) finding a cheap but average striker, b) an expensive but better than average but not stellar striker, or c) a complete unknown

I might be alone in this but I would actually be quite pleased if we signed him. I rated him the few times I saw him play for Portsmouth as I know a few of my Pompey supporting mates did, he is experienced and offers something a bit different to what we already have.

As long as his wages are not too high, I think he could be a good free transfer, we do desperately need some more numbers up front and it doesn't appear that we have that many options to choose from.
