Looks like our favourite egotistical (but brilliant) cricketer might be throwing his toys out of the pram for good.
The man on his day is a batting genius! The most exciting batsman in the world barr none, also the most selfish and unreliable. I f***ing hate him.
Should be a Premiershite Footballer, as he has exactly the same motivation as them i.e. how can he make as much dosh for as little effort as possible (Answer - play for the Chennai Chappatis or whoever in the IPL)
I have huge sympathy for him. The way our cricketers are thrashed around the world playing game after game is ridiculous. Now we're at the stage that different tournaments are staged at the same time (IPL v County championship) with demands on loyalties, we have home test series in May, we have completely pointless one-day series against Australia every summer, and we're seeing talented cricketer after talented cricketer being forced to pick and choose and take decisions that put them at odds with their board. The likes of Brett Lee, Lasith Malinga and Andrew Flintoff have been lost to test cricket because their bodies just couldn't keep up with the demands, and the ECB continues to be unreasonable to the likes of KP who wanted to stop playing meaningless one-dayers but was forced to give up 20-20 at the same time - meaning the fans suffer the most. Its a mess and KP is one of the few people with the balls to stand up to it.
Even then a mild-mannered press conference like yesterdays is deemed to be a 'shocking outburst' and behind the scenes talks with the ECB are leaked and called 'grabbing the headlines'. Seems to be an approach to demonise Pietersen, and judging by comments on here, its working.
All this makes perfect sense if KP's argument was that he wanted to rest with his family. It isn't though. He wants to miss the tour of NZ so he can play the entire IPL and then he still wants to be in for the Ashes. If there is too much cricket, why does he want to play the entire IPL? Doesn't make sense. He wants his cake, and he wants to eat double helpings.
But then it is a short earning span for a cricketer and 4 or 5 seasons in the IPL can set them up financially for life.
