Yep, for 6 or 7 years now, although not very active currently.

A great way of making a walk more interesting and also opens your eyes to places on your doorstep that you didn't know were there.

We even used the geocaches of Central Park as our guide when in New York.

Yes, for about a year now. I have learnt so much more about my local area and it helps when exploring areas you have not been to before, especially when you want to get away from the usual tourist things.

Well if you think it was ruined then, wait till The Stats join in.

I've just picked up on this, I think the jnrs might enjoy this over the hols.

Any advise?

Treasure hunt for those with GPS gadgets. Basically, you get some map references from a website, use GPS to get to that location, once there you have to find a hidden cache. These hidden caches usually contain some items and a sheet of paper to record your visit. The finder then takes an item with them but must put in one of their own.

Don't do it myself but would if I had kids in tow.

Yes I discovered one accidentally and have been doing it for a year now. I do it without a GPS though and use an Ordnance Survey map. Makes it a little more difficult.

I'd forgotten about this. I once stumbled on a cache by accident and wondered what the heck it was - and found out. Now I have a phone with GPS I might take it up.

Get the app for android/iphone, it works really well.

There are a couple of really nice circuits, ideal for the kids, near Alborne. They're called "the Alborne Identity."

I use the C:geo Android App which is free and according to many, is better that the official (paid for) App.

There are loads of caches in Sussex, some great series to walk on the Downs and on the Ashdown Forest. One of my favourite has to be 'Crowborough Cluedo', a long walk starting & ending in Crowborough, taking you to Groombridge, skirting T. Wells and back through Eridge. Based on the Cluedo game you have to work out whodunnit, where and which weapon then calculate the coordinates for the hidden bonus cache.

Yes, it's Geeky (and I don't care!), but if you like walking and finding out more than you think you know about places, it's great fun.

PS. There's a cache hidden outside the Amex (part of the Star Wars series) so you could even pick up a find on a match day!
