Lionel Messi

His 3 (so far) goals tonight have given him SIXTY EIGHT goals for club and country this season, breaking Gerd Muller's record of 67 from 1972-73.

Yes, I know he's playing in an incredible club side, but that is one hell of an achievement.

Wunder-bairn LM has just knocked in goal number 68 for this season, eclipsing Gerd Muller's record of 67 from the seventies...

With a couple of games to go, I wonder if he can go over the 70 goal threshold?

Worth giving him a ring Tone? ???

If he was playing for the Albion just think what his goal tally could have been this season.

On the Barca match Twitter page, they give GM's record as being set in 67/68 ??? Donna think so...

68 for club alone in fact. 5 for Argentina this season. So 73 for club and country.

It's actually kind of freakish what Messi & Ronaldo have been doing the last few years. They are miles ahead of everyone else in a decent league, in terms of goal scoring.

Is it just a case of having 2 of the best players ever at one time, playing for 2 of the best teams in the world or is that some la liga defenses are utter pony? Any explanations? Neither of them seem to ever get injured as well.

Spanish teams don't bother defending and both players are exceptional and seem to be the pinnacle of their attacks.

In fairness 30 is a good achievement and it's only the fact that both have scored bucket loads that they are not getting the plaudits that over 60 goals deserves. If it had been just one of them the world would be going crazy

La liga is pony when you get below the top 2, don't matter what way you wrap it up, there is just about a 30 point gap between 2nd and 3rd, sure RM and Barca are class acts, but they don't have any competition in their domestic league. Now imagine what Messi and Ronaldo could contribute to the EPL, that would be awesome.

Didn't Ronaldo score something like 35 goals in his last season at Utd? He was always going to score bundles in Spain ???

Abort, retry, fail
An empty record perhaps, considering he will not win a major honour this season (unless I am mistaken). Pretty decent record though!

As for Messi and/or Ronaldo coming to the top flight and making it 'awesome', I'm not sure about that.

'We've' only got another contender in the title race due to some crass overspending. Crass overspending and a little bit more is going to be needed to prise either of them away.

The reason we are not essentially a two horse race is because there is a great deal more money thrown/available to more than two teams in our league. If that makes us less pony, then so be it.

All Spanish Europa League final and nearly an all Spanish Champions League final. It's not THAT bad, is it?

The Champions League final will be between a team 8 points behind their league leaders, versus a team 22 points behind their league leaders, rather than two Spanish teams who are over 30 points ahead of the third placed team...Mmmmmmm...

The phrase "Champions League" doesn't really fit, does it.

Not that bad I guess, but there really doesn't seem to be much challenge to RM and Barca does there? Look, RM 2-0 at Bilao after 20 minutes, are Bilao one of the teams in the Europa final? At least in the EPL there is a bit more of a challenge from those not at the top.

As for the money being spent, RM and Barca both spend massively, the only thing is, banks and, ahem, creditors, still give them money to carry on getting deeper in debt. None of it is perfect, and I doubt the new financial fair play rules will be given the blindest bit of notice by their top 2, or ours. At least quite a few of our top teams actually make some money.

Quite, that is a bug bear of mine, make it Champions only, not second best, not fourth best, just the best.

Champions League places are awarded based on last seasons performance, not the current seasons standings.

CL = marketing tag.

Really a glorified UEFA cup with champs included too.

All about £, after the threatened breakaway some years ago.
