Ipswich Fans With Banners...

Barrel of Fun

Ipswich are fully flegded, signed up members of the NPower Championship, do these guys sit/stand in the Britannia Stand? Nature of the beast.

Modern day football has allowed them to accrue debts approaching £70m and still operate.

Sorry but I'm sure you said my post didn't make any sense. I was just helping you out a bit.

Anyway, I'll leave you all to get all over excited about a banner.

It didn't make MUCH sense TBF. Given that the vast majority are not getting precious or over excited. Just confused.

But I deciphered it and I am awaiting my call from MI5

Sat next to an Ipswich fan on the train home and he was acutely embarrassed by the banner and apologised twice. Don't tarr a whole set of fans with same brush - the ones who did this were clearly ignorant twats who know nothing of our history.

This banner was NOTHING personal, it was from a group of Ipswich fans who are against Modern Football. They have NOTHING against Brighton as a club, they just object to the stadium being named after a corporate giant. I do not see this as pathetic at all, they were meerley getting their views across. Maybe the 'North Stand Kollective' should try doing a display some time.
What a load of pretentious STUDENT SHIT.

I agree with Timbo, I don't think anyone should get too upset by the banner.

I do agree with their sentiment, but it is akin to boycotting/picketing Tesco, having a quick break from duty and grabbing a sandwich from Sainsburys.

The only reason people didn't get it is because it didn't say 'American Express Community Stadium just 'The AMEX'

And for what it's worth i agree with them, stadiums shouldn't be named after PLC's

No, I think everyone can quite easily deduce that "The AMEX" refers to The American Expres Community Stadium. Jesus H. Corbett.

The reason people didn't get it is because it didn't make grammatical sense, and didn't seem to have a point.

As for the naming rights of stadiums, I'd agree its a shame when existing stadiums have their names bought out by corporate sponsorship. But ours is brand new, we're making our own history as we go along. Turning down x million pounds from the likes of Amex for the naming rights would be stupidity of the highest order.

How misplaced was that ? For a club like Ipswich (unlike us) who have been in administration.

Have any of those fans helped other clubs, demonstrated on behalf of Wrexham and Plymouth - sent money to Bury ?

Until the club make an official apology on behalf of those idiots they are down there with MK Dons in my estimation.

Ipswich Town hold your head in shame

Well, everyone I was with took offence, big time. And the Ipswich supporters I spoke to on the way were embarrassed by it. One Town fan was particularly surprised, cos he knew our history, and said that their owner is a faceless rich bloke who will apparently make a corporate killing 'when' they go up to the top flight. Very strange.

Inbred pricks.

Speaking to a couple on the train back to Brighton said they thought Ipswitch were the better side.

They had tunnel vision for Chopra, and their 7 and 11. The rest seemed decidely average to poor, and they played a high up offside trap but with naff defenders. You can see how many teams have destroyed them this season.

Banner - as it was being unravelled, Stewards should have ripped it away straight away. The carrot crunchers aren't exactly Millwall.

My money's on a minority of the S6 vigilante brigade. They all hate Sky, the Premiership and the influx of money into the game, while blindly ignoring the fact every inch of their own club is being slapped with corporate sponsorship and advertising, and would not exist without being so."

shows it's not ALL Ipswich fans , and I'm not surprised , when we went up there they were top drawer :) just a poorly worded banner without no rhyme nor reason BUT worked for us , great atmosphere today and that worked for us.

Agreed with the second banner held up (the Anti EPPP one) , but obviously due to the fracas the first one caused I noticed the stewards dealt with it pretty quickly.

I think we have to just put it down to a genuinely ignorant misjudgement by a few Ipswich fans, who should now be feeling a bit embarrassed about the whole thing. I had nothing against Ipswich before the game, I admit the banner riled me before kickoff and as a result I probably gave them a lot more foul mouthed abuse and obnoxious gestures than I normally would have directed at the away end during the game. But Ipswich are still a long, long way off my current "hate" list.

They're just a bit stupid is all. And thats not a crime.

Except all the money from the Amex naming rights goes to football in the community and not the playing side of the club.

One of the most bizarre things I've seen at a football match.

Not one person around me had a CLUE what point they were trying to make.

On the plus side I thought today was going to be a bit flat but the banner really got the crowd going...

Shame about the banner. In the past when we were at our lowest I always considered Ipswich Town, as a club, to be a template for those out of the top dozen to match.
Am sure the club is still the friendly, family club they always were. Just a few morons embarrassing them. All clubs have them.
