As much as I dislike Carroll, I was less than impressed with El-Abd cuddling him on every corner.

That cost us the first goal attention drawn to that fiasco. Liability

Carroll expects to just overpower any defender, physically humiliating and owning them like a Goliath putting a little schoolboy across his knee.

I think he did play well in general (better than Dunk) but his defending of set-pieces was very worrying. And Carroll could have easily dropped a couple of times and got a penalty from a different ref. Fair or not, he needs to be careful.

I watched the first half on a crap feed on the internet which was nonetheless good enough to show how much attention AeA paid to Carroll, though possibly not the overall situation.

Why do we allocate El Abd to mark their tallest player when we have two other six foot defenders ? I know people will say it is because he more able to match Carroll physically ...

there you go, answered your own question.

Lets have no illusion that El-Abd would have been instructed to mark Carroll, in the full knowledge of how El-Abd likes to operate. it certainly had the desired effect, unsettling Carroll who did nothing the first half. if one paid attention, most of the dancing occurs before the ball is played, so no foul, he is a master of his art.

He's not very good,but he can be effective in certain situations.I think he was an irritation to Carroll who should possibly have had a hat-trick,missing simple headers when he did get free.
Adam would get crucified in the Premiership,but I could see him doing a job for Millwall or Leeds.
Dunk had a bad one.Tried to be clever once too often and his awful touch was exposed for his OG.

As El Abd is no left back, but at least he is a defender. Expecting Noone to play at left back was akin to Mcghee playing Virgo as a striker !! We had to go attacking at 3-1 but with three wingers on [Vicente, Noone & Lualua] we were a broken formation.

I wouldn't "credit" El Abd for the 3 goals we conceeded during the period after he went off.
