This is a shame, I always liked him but Oxford Citys Lee Steele has been sacked for making a comment on Twitter

“The Oxford City board have decided to release Lee Steele in view of his recent comment via social media which is considered seriously contrary to the ethos of the club.”

Former Northwich Victoria, Shrewsbury, Brighton and Leyton Orient man Steele, 38, made a homophobic remark on his Twitter account.

The post, about openly-gay Welsh Rugby Union star and current Celebrity Big Brother contestant Gareth Thomas, read: “I wouldn’t fancy the bed next to Gareth Thomas #padlock my a**e”.

I saw that a few days back, only because another Albion fan picked him up on it at the time.

It's homophobic and insidious as it comes from a public figure (albeit a minor one, but one still with influence over some) and it continues the stereotype that no-man is safe from the sexual advances of a homosexual, something which is clearly ridiculous (esp if you're as ugly as Lee Steele), let alone offensive. Not really just banter is it.

What an idiot...

I don't think that comment has any place, particuarly with regards to the special nature of homosexual sportsmen who struggle with depression due to such 'banter'.

Would he actually know where his arse was? Frankly, I'd put good money on him padlocking a hole in the ground.

I only saw the club statement which came out today, hadn't previously seen him (or looked for him) on Twitter.

Just far enough away from LDC
having seen his accuracy at shooting I'm sure he's more likely to be padlocking his elbow.

Give what happened to our plastic Geordie friend after his comments on Twitter, I think this is far worse as it's from a public figure. The FA are trying to kick homophobia out of football, so when one of the players spouts "banter" like this then surely he has got to go.

So what about players then that have little respect for women - John terry, Ashley cole, Wayne Rooney, they are there to set examples too surely - nothing happens to them!!

Hang about - they LOVE women. So much so, that they have a few on the go at any given time...

If its not just banter what to you would be acceptable as just banter?
