Expansion/Academy Rumours.

I don’t really like to post rumours on here because on the couple of occasions I have they’ve turned out to be absolute rubbish but at the game on Saturday I heard the same rumour twice and then someone has mentioned something similar on the Argus website’s article comment section (The Buckley Article).

I wondered if anyone had heard the same or something similar. It goes something along the lines of….

The club are to put in an application to expand by 8000 seats on the 16th December at a cost of 14 million as well as the new training complex at a cost of 25million some 10 million pounds more than initially planned.

The bloke on the Argus website also goes on to suggest there will be three ‘big’ signings in January with the view to push on for promotion.

I know this isn’t exactly a new rumour as these plans have sort of been announced by the club but I thought the quoted figures were interesting, has anyone heard anything similar???

Well just hope that amount of expense can be comfortably accounted for if we take another 5 years to make the big premiership payday, we've seen a lot of clubs go almost bust chasing the prem but I have to trust that Tony Bloom, although a gambler is not a reckless one and can cover the costs even if the gates/income form the club drop off a bit and wages go up.

All part of the long term plans Tony Bloom and Gus have been talking about in the media.

We have already signed players for 1.1 million and 3.25 million why would be not do it again if the right player becomes avalible at the right price and will play within our wage budget.

Personally speaking I hope we don't break the bank in a 'push for promotion'; I'd much rather see this squad establish itself and consolidate and add/develop gradually

I wouldn’t be surprised if the figures are well over the top but if true almost 40 million spent on top of the 93 million already spent on the stadium is an eye watering amount of money.

No way will adding the extra seats cost £14m. The corners just need the seats added and the Upper East just need the extra tier adding to a concourse that is already built.

Seriously, if the costs are racking up that high for a relatively simple piece of work one would suspect some sort of "tax" creativity is in place to assist TB's wider business concerns!

or perhaps some quite expensive stuff to meet the required transport planning requirements?

Unless they have massive infastruture works planned, I can't see how the other seats would cost £14 mill considering that the structure of the stadium is already in place to support them.

1. I think most people have been told about the expansion on the stadium and the most popular fig is 8000, so fingers cross this happens as we have shown we need more seats because of high demand, mind you 14 mil sounds abit high for me but I dont know nothing about buying & installing seats !

2. training complex is needed so im guessing thats going to happen, again if its going to cost 25 mil, its going to be one of the best in europe !!!

3. Its very hard to go on rumours for tranfers as everyone hears different rumours, we have had michael owen to david beckham to vicente, o wait .... but yh I heard of 4 or 5 'big names' going round along with a few not so big but some I can see so fingers cross this happens and we can push for promotion

I would have thought 14 million sounded about right, With the East Stand upper it’s not just concrete terracing and seats, there would be the concourse area to do including toilets and kiosks. There was also talk on here a while ago of the clubs intention to add further hospitality suites in the South West corner, perhaps this plan is part of the 14 million?

Christ if I'd paid £105m for a poxy 22k stadium I would have hoped the expansion would already have been factored into that price!!!

£14m for 8000 seats doesn't sound excessive - less than £2k a seat which the club will recover fairly quickly. Given other parts of the stadium will need upgrading to take account of the extra footfall I'd say it's not an unreasonable sum.

I don't know how the seats wuld cost an extra 14 million!? That's the East Stand Upper concourse and fitting that out and maybe some more corporate areas but £14 m?

Unless that includes the cost of a new car park!?

The aim is for both applications to be submitted on the 16 though, know that much.

I seem to remember TB saying the inner bowl would be the same height all the way around, this would mean a little steel support for the top bits of the south corners as they are only half height, Along with that I imagine the new corporate boxes would cost some.

14 million sounds a bit rich to put in 8000 seats IMHO, unless that figure includes the club paying to extend the train station?
