Very difficult to rate tonight. For example, CMS was a 5 at best first half, but a 9 second. I thought Bridcutt had an awful game by his high standards but still had his moments. I also don't really understand the decisions that Gus made. The substitutions were too attcking and too late. I do wonder if that was, in part down to the ref who went through a crazy spell of booking players every time there was a tackle.

Ankergren 6 - Will be disappointed by the goals he has let in and his general play, but he's underserving of the abuse some have given him.
Calderon 7 - Much better game, put in some strong challenges and was effective going forward aswell.
Painter 7 - I thought he had his best game of the season, mainly because Snodgrass didn't play out wide.
Dunk 7 - Quality performance individually, not sure there was anything he could have done better about the goals.
Greer 6 - Concentration seemed to be lacking, might be being harsh but he contributed to the nervy spell which ended up with 2 goals against.
Bridcutt 8 - Sheer class in the midfield, brilliant performance and getting better by playing against better opponents.
Dicker 6 - Thought he was a bit slow and didn't have much of a positive impact on the game, but his weight of pass is superb.
LuaLua 7 - Looked very good second half when running at them with his pace and but for one bizarrely overhit cross, his distribution was good.
Noone 6 - Looked very tired and was the right call to bring him off at half time, he'll be eager to impress against Palace though...
Barnes 7 - I think he's looking better and better, his technique is getting better (but for one shocking miscontrol in the first half!). Cracking penalty.
Mackail-Smith 8 - Brilliant performance, we need to get him service in the box and then he comes alive.

Subs
Vicente 7 - Looks like he is going to be quality for us when he's fully fit and intergrated into the team.
Hoskins 6 - Didn't really notice him do anything but will be important for us this season.
Vincelot 5 - Did pretty much nothing I don't think.

Ankergren 5 - unfathomable decision to kick the ball to the oppo keeper. Silly booking. Doesn't inspire
Calderon 7 - solid. Good going forward. Made the 3rd goal
Greer 5 - Worst game he has played for Albion
Dunk 7- Solid and composed. Nearly blocked the 3rd Leeds goal
Painter 5 - Same as Greer. Lacked the creative spark that Vincelot had in that position on Weds
Bridders - 9. Mr Reliable. Simple, unflustered and effective
Dicker 6 - Ok when we are going forward, but gives concern at losing the ball in our half too many times
Noone 6.5 - Not at his usual high standards. Better on the left than the right
Lua Lua 7 - Played well and caused plenty of issues for the full back. Still doesn't seem to have as much pace as he once did
Barnes - 7 Good pen. Nice lay off for the 3rd goal. Played too deep in the first half
CMS - 8. Didn't get the rub of the green in the first half but his first goal was really well taken and he didn't look back after that. Relentless
Vincente. 8. Clever and so hard to dispossess. We look much better with him in the team.

Hoskins and Vincelot weren't on for long enough to merit a score. Hope they both get more action on Tuesday.

I cannot agree that Greer had a particularly bad game (certainly not the one I watched from WSU).

Most of the others I can agree with but I would go on to say that Vicente is absolute class, Vincelot (who I think is excellent) was brought on (who knows where he was told to play) but he should have been re-inforcing defence by replacing Painter rather than CMS at that stage in the game.

Nooney ran himself ragged against Liverpool and was therefore 'knackered' tonight so hope he is fine for Tuesday after a good rest. KLL is not cutting the mustard at the moment so dont agree with a 7.

Ankergren - 5 Would have got a 6 if he hadn't punted that ball straight to their keeper. Will be disappointed.

Calderon - 7 As usual very good going forward, got skinned once but otherwise not bad at the back.
Greer - 5 Looked exhausted. Shanked lots of clearances out of play. My man of the season so far but was poor today.
Dunk - 7 Looks like he's been playing for 10 years. One particularly outstanding tackle in the second half, glad he didn't pick up a booking to miss the Palace game.
Painter - 6 Average/solid performance.

Noone - 5 Didn't work for him today. Needs to pass the ball more.
Bridcutt - 8 His ball control is one of the best I've ever seen and when you watch him go into a 50/50 you know he's going to come out on top.
Dicker - 6 I like him, he's creative and can pick out the outstanding defence-splitting ball. BUT STOP LOSING THE BALL IN OUR HALF.
Lualua - 6 Needs to get in behind the full back more often, his ball control needs improving.

Barnes - 7 Not sure what he was doing in the midfield first half. Good pen, great in the box.
Mackail-Smith - 8 Dreadful first half but fantastic second.

Vicente - 7 How does he keep the ball for so long? Looks class.

Ref - 7 Not much of note, gave us a pen (was it a pen?)

Why can't we play the whole 90 minutes like we played the second 45?

Hard to give ratings with a game like this where the halves were so different.

I continue to be impressed with CMS's work rate, skill and general attitude; Bridcutt's unflustered, silky distribution; the way Barnes is improving and growing in confidence; Noone's energy and touch; the flair of Calderon, the leadership of Greer, Dunk's brilliance, and the sheer class that is Vicente.

We've lost our way in the first half of both games this week but the way we've responded in the second half tells me (a) Poyet knows how to correct the problems and (b) the players have the ability to compete at the upper end of the Championship.

Remember the times when the most popular chant was "come ON Brighton, come on"? Have we EVER heard that at the Amex? Happy days.

Going by the telly;

Danske Ankergren 5 - Made one excellent save, but will be disappointed with positioning for the second goal. I also blame him somewhat for the circumstances of the third goal, his punt straight through the middle back to Lonergan gave Leeds a chance to put the ball straight back in our box. If he had 'found touch' the goal would not have happened. He also made one serious mistake with his kicking, gifting Leeds the ball thirty yards from goal, but they failed to capitalise, fortunately.

Calderon 5 - Should have been sent off for terrible tackle in first half, improved in the second but that tackle was appalling

Dunk 7 - Constantly on the cover for the lacking Greer, who frankly had a shocker, did well and looked a mile ahead of Greer on the night

Greer 3 - Nothing went right for him - he had an absolute shocker. Dodgy with both feet, constantly skied/sliced the ball. New boots? Looked slow on the turn tonight and weak in the air in the latter stages. Easily his worst game for the Albion since he randomly assaulted the opposition at Withers on his debut and got sent off.

John Terry's Younger Brother 5 - Looked a world of average. Was particularly shown up for a lack of pace when unable to catch a pass about 3ft ahead of him from Lua Lua.

Lua Lua 7 - Shocking first 25 minutes along with the rest of them, improved and looked our best player in the second and third quarters - ran out of legs somewhat towards the end but was nice to see him track back a lot more in the second half, presumably after a bollocking.

Dicker 5 - Never in the game, looked slow and well under par. Heard his name mentioned twice - the game passed him by

Bridcutt 7 - Did well particularly in the second half. Completely overrun in the first, but it is hard to blame him personally for that.

Noone 5 - Looked tired and marked out of the game, correct decision to bring him off

Mackail-Smith 8 - As always, he ran his bollocks off. His first goal was SUBLIME, his second showed a poacher's instinct. Much better second half than first - a confidence player in the most blatant sense.

Barnes 6 - Bad first half, looked a better player in the second in the context of a team on the upturn. Dropped deeper in the second half and does so much better a little deeper as a 'link up' striker. Looked far too isolated in the first half. Another good penalty.

SUBS:

Vicente 8 - Again looked the best player on the pitch whilst he was on, his touch his a cut above. Surprising lack of ability from set plays - if he isn't a specialist why is he involved with them? Our best player by a mile if we can keep him fit and interested.

Vincelot and Hoskins too hard to judge.

Ref: 7. Had a good game, generally. Got a little card-happy in the second half.

Fans: 10. Sounded incredible on the telly

The theme of the half-time team talk seems to be a common one - coming out in the 2nd half v Doncaster, and even Liverpool, and now tonight it would appear, you could immediately tell they'd been given new instructions. That can't be a bad thing.

Ankergren 5. Hmmm, better in the air, i'll give him that.
Calderon 5. Poor first half, involved in the third goal gets him an extra point
painter 6. Solid enough, where was he for the equaliser?
Greer 5. Occasionally flustered, not sure i've seen that before
dunk 5.
Bridcutt 6. Off the pace but still put a shift in.
Dicker 5. Game just passed him by.
Noone 6. Tried but it didn't come off for him.
Lua lua. 7 brightest point of the first half and repeatedly had the beating of his full-back. Hope he can develop the same understanding with barnes/cms he had with murray.
Cms 8 wonderful second half performance
barnes 7 good throughout.
Vicente 6
hoskins 5
vincelot 5

So true (except 8 might give you the wrong impression about just how good he is)

He was magnificent for half an hour until he seemed to tire and wasn't as involved. But then he dropped a little deeper, and it was a glorious fifty yard ball from ten yards in front of Dunk on the left side of defense out to Barnes standing on the right wing that led to the second CMS goal.

Got beaten too easily in the build up for the first goal and he was like a statue for the second. McCormack beat him far too easily. But yes, he did improve in the second half

Worthing
Casper - 6 - Woeful kick at the end - otherwise average

Calderon - 5 - Worst game of the season for me, all over the place, not in a good way
Painter - 6 - Average. Was disappointed Vincelot was left out.
Dunk - 6 - Dreaful first half, improved in second.
Greer - 6 - Looked sloppy tonight again awful in first half.

Dicker - 5 - Very poor. Bit like a headless chicken. Improved in the second half, but nowehere near his best
Bridcutt - 8 - Average first half, but outstanding in the second.
Noone - 6 - Tried hard but at times has too many touches.
Lua Lua - 6 - Starved of the ball in the first half, played better in second

Ashley - 7 - Great workrate, though like most of them poor first half. Linked with CMS well in second.
CMS - 8 - Poor in the first half. Magnificent in second.

Vincente - 7 - Made a difference, but we were so ppor in the first half would've been difficult not to.
Hoskins - 6 - Not enough time. Did nnothing wrong
Vincelot - 6 - As above

Ankergren 5 - what was he thinking with that kick with 60 seconds to go?

Calderon 7 - excellent 2nd half when he got forward, unlucky not to clear first goal
Greer 5 - looked tired tonight, not his usual assured self
Dunk 7 - unfortunate ricochet for first goal, our best defender
Painter 5 - I thought he should have done better for their winner, brushed aside too easily.

Lua Lua 7 - much better 2nd half, great ball for the penalty
Dicker 6 - did not impose himself as much as usual
Bridcutt 8 - this guy is pure class. Knits the team together
Noone 6 - some nice flashes, unlucky not to have pen, good decision to rest him 2nd half

Mackail Smith 8 - first half performance 5, 2nd half 10 - chased too many lost causes first half but service was poor. Absolutely top drawer finishing. Should have stayed on 'till the end to keep Leeds under pressure (poor decision from Gus)
Barnes 8 - I thought he had his best 45 minutes in an Albion shirt second half, brilliant all round play

Subs:

Vicente 8 - 2 or 3 players on him all the time and he still found the pass
Hoskins and Vincelot were not on long enough to rate, but why oh why did Gus take off CMS?
